HELP! Living Room Design Recommendations, Welcomed

My Husband and I got married this January and I want to incorporate both of our styles and memories from our Wedding Day in our living room.

I want to cultivate a cozy, Ralph Lauren vibe with a touch of eclectic pieces in our living area. Our favorite color is Blue so we bought a Blue velvet sectional to accommodate family/ friends as we love to host. We also love, plaid, strips, browns, yellows and red.

Measurements of the walls for both couch and TV area at 12 feet wide, back door with two windows is 14 ft wide. Ceilings are 9ft high.

Looking for recommendations on wall decor and accent/ accessories but open to any other recommendations.

Thank you all!

I'd swap the sectional and the TV/computer,etc. for a neater configuration.

Inside mount blinds on the window to clean up the window coverings.

keyboard in front of the kitchen opening, computer in front of the window.

    Spin the rug.

I agree duplicate posts are not helpful to us or you. I dislike family photos in public spaces so why not do a nice bunch of wedding pics in halways to the bedrooms or even in the bedroom Then add a grea piece of art you both love above the sofa . The windows covering are a mess and for sure with thta pretty velvet . My advice for thta get some nice drapes mmaybe with a thing blue strip in some faux silk. I aslo agree that the layout of the space is better when done as suggested . The rug for me is just a rug no connection to anything in the space I am not sure if your are a young couple or older but aspace is done in steps to make it all work together .I will say plaid and velvet not a great combo but yellow is anawesome choice with blue. Maybe a rug like this that will give you some options for accent colors Waht you have now on the sifa wall is all wrong so my advice start with either the new piece of art or the rug then move on to other items to make the space work. I thnk the windows need drapes and I really didlike blinds that keep me from seeing outside . If heat anfd UV are issues then some solar shades in bronxe 10% to control those and also allow you to keep the view they also give you daytime privacy so nice drapes for night time privacy will make the space feel more elgant with that sofa. Do the same on all the windows .

A few ideas illustrated below... Ralph Lauren inspired wall art, you need hang your curtains higher up closer to the ceiling and natural fibre/bamboo blinds would add interest to your windows. Your TV is too high on the wall and your TV console should be longer. Hopefully you an relocate the computer desk keeping only the piano. I've brought the navy chair up closer to be part of a conversation area. I don't see much lighting in the room but without a floorplan with dimensions it's difficult to suggest anything more.

What they said (flip room, pull up chair, add art, lamps, tall drapes) . . .

Thank you! Unfortunately my couch prices do not flip. :( but this looks great! I’m definitely going with the wall decor

I love the idea of bringing yo the chair

Yes, I thought about that after I showed the room flipped. The sectional would rotate, not flip, so the angled section would be by the window and the lamp couldn't be in the inside corner, where it's needed. The kitchen pass-through would be more useful for serving for a crowd, though, if it were more open for access. Your call which side is better, all things considered. Here's the unflipped photo:

That couch is definitely WAY too big for that room. I'd find a nice used couch on FB Marketplace IF budget is an issue and add a side chair or two depending on the space available. I like your coffee table and rug. The pictures on the wall are fine, but the arrangement is half-hazard. There isn't a defined rhyme or reason to their placement. The spacing between the 3 frames are not even. Even spacing would help and also hanging them lower for a sitting area. A sitting area's pictures should be lower than a walking/standing area's pictures. I would personally go with larger picture(s) for that wall and move the smaller ones onto smaller walls.

Edit: Sorry I skimmed the question so fast I did not see you just bought that couch. It is still too huge, but since getting a different one is out of the questions, I'd definitely lower the art and place it with a plan.

Is the wall with the kitchen cut out long enough that the sectional can back onto it? Then the tv could go on angle in the corner by the window. It would leave the other side of the room to be the "office/music" room.

No there isn’t enough space along the kitchen counter unfortunately

Here's an option for the other side of the room, assuming the desk would fit on the left-side wall as shown. I painted the wall behind and beside the desk in the dark blue of the sectional, for balance with its mass and to give the work area a sense of having its own space. You could use a Ralph Lauren style removable wallpaper (plaid?) instead of paint if you liked. The blue is edged with brass trim strips.

Note that the camera makes distances into the photo look longer than they are. Here's a floor plan of this arrangement in a 12x14 room (2 squares = 1 foot). Walk space from kitchen to living room is pretty tight (and I've skimped on sectional/chair dimensions). You would have to see if this works in real life.

Any suggestions on what to put above the sectional for decor?

See my comments above for one option. I chose dogs because I see you have one (art should say something about you). What interests you? Whatever you do needs to be bold enough in scale to stand up to the large sectional.

I am always recommending the large paper tapestries from Anthropologie bc they are huge and a total steal - you could also frame a large piece of fantastic wallpaper
