Looks like the shoots are still plenty green and haven't turned to wood yet. I suspect it will straighten out as I have never seen any of the Norway spruce that I have grown ever have that kind of bend in the leader at the end of summer. (Good growth on evergreens this year with all the May and June rain!)

If it worries you at any point, strap a small, skinny 3' bamboo onto it and tie it straight.

My first experience with P. abies.

A potted tree, 30" tall, planted May 2023.

We haven't had tons of rain here, and I've watered once or twice earlier this spring, but we've had just enough rain lately to keep us going well. ;-)

This particular spot has had years of wood mulching before this tree was planted so it's pretty rich soil there, for being on the sandy side.

Should straighten out -- mine are still a bit crooked.

8-18-2025:

The tree straightened out to 'good enough' and probably will continue to improve.

Who'd have thought a tree could grow correctly without any help from me. :-))

80" tall with new leader 32" long, the greatest amount of new growth of any spruce I've grown.

It wouldn't surprise me if this tree sent out a 'second flush' of growth from the new buds, yet this summer.

8-16-2026:

This tree looked fine right away in the spring and thought, hmm no winter damage.

But I think it was subject to our early thaw then hard freeze in April.

The tree grew fine but it appears to have reneged on the growth along the side of the central leader. Like bare spots with dead buds along the length of last years leader.

The original leader this spring was broke off by the hail storm so I bent a nearby branch upward and it took.

8ft. 8in. tall with 24" in new leader for the season.
