LOVE your chairs over all. The upholstery design can easily be DIY changed if a rug can't be found. Right now that's the element that says 'off' to me not the chair/table/rug relationship. The pattern is too large, too loud for the beautiful table and chair design, for me.

I'd change the chair fabric before I'd change the rug

The rug is a great complement to your dining table and chairs.

Any rugs that had the Arabesque pattern in gray and white were never any brighter than a cream color.

It's been my experience that when this fabric pattern is applied to seating it follows one direction. See pics below.

Your chairs seem to follow a different direction that doesn't seem to fit the chair. I don't think this is a hard and fast rule, but the direction of the pattern is further illustrated by the area rugs shown in the pictures above.

Thank you @arcy_gw, really appreciate your insights, did not think to look at that way, in fact, that fabric has been on these chairs for time, you are right, everything else is working, so will change the upholstery!

I agree change the upholstery on the chairs a quite simple job actually. I think to go with a rug that tries to match will look horrible . I actually do not like rugs in DRS but thta is just me. The rug is nice with the chair style and wood so fix the seats maybe the red fromthe rug

I’d use a lovely textured fabric vs a print, consider art that balances the back wall, suggest removing the runner as it takes away from the table’s design and add an eye catching centerpiece with some visual weight. Your room will be transformed.

Oh, good, I had the exact same impression--the chair fabric is the odd man out. The table and chairs are gorgeous, and the rug works beautifully. I think that a small scale woven fabric would be nice. Use a color that isn't a dominant one in the rug--red, sage green, navy. No white or off-white.
