I would not mix brands on anything. Have these floors been sanded to bear wood? Varathane is not really a quality brand of floor stain either, and I would not use Minwax anything on a floor. What exactly are you working with and what are you trying to accomplish at the end of the project? Maple stains very blotchy even with "wood conditioner" and I have not really heard of using that type product on a floor.

For newbies, don't mix brands. If, you want a really good stain result for maple floors. Apply a base coat of aniline dye and then layer your stain coat on top. Otherwise, expect the maple to be blotchy as mentioned.

Thank you I ended up not mixing brands and the floors came out beautiful with just wood conditioner and a natural stain. I am about to put the top coat on today so hopefully it goes well and is not too finicky.
