my first goal is to edit the wardrobe. Arrange the clothes in categories and see what kind of space you really need to make it a working closet.

since you have an odd arrangement, I would have a big mirror on the gable end and a seat. A light fixture that has flex arms so you can direct the lighting for accent and use.

just as aside, I prefer wire basket drawers for ventilation, but I live in a coastal climate.

... you could do a shoe storage at the end if you already have a good mirror and place to sit in the bedroom.

You said you have hired a pro, but Amazon has great DIY systems that are much less expensive.

The quick and easy thing is to replace the fluorescent tubes with LED tubes designed for exactly that purpose. They just snap in. However, when you are getting a new custom closet, a new long LED fixture can add a lot of style as well as light. It should span the length of the closet.

My husband and I installed the Elfa system from the Container Store and we love it. It wasn’t hard to do and there was no fighting!

I am interested in seeing what you do with your closet because I'm going to be redoing my primary closet soon - and it's constructed similar to yours.

It's located over the garage and has a gable - it's 8' wide and 18.5' long. The gable isn't as steep as yours = it isn't as narrow of a space where the ceiling is full height and flat (the ceiling is a little over 9' tall - I've never measured the width of the flat part). I also have a lovely fluorescent light fixture on the ceiling (it has a cover around it).

My closet has a set of built-in shelves on both side walls when you enter the closet - and then has clothing rods with a shelf over them running down both sides. The wall at the end has double hanging rods with shelves over both.

Question - do you use the space behind the access door at the end of your closet? I'm trying to decide what to do with the eave space that runs down both sides of my closet. I had no idea that there was so much space on each side (especially on the left side which is next to my daughter's former bedroom - it would have been a really fun "hide out"/nook for my two girls when they were younger if I would have realized how much space is there!

I feel like I need to do something in order to use the space (after all, it's 18.5' long and about 4 feet wide) - maybe have some built-in dressers that are behind hanging clothes for out of season stuff? Or - at least make access doors + finish the space in order to use it for storage for suitcases and whatever else I might need to store away? I've saved a lot of ideas - but not really sure what to do.

What height are your clothing rods/shelves on each side of the closet currently?

I have an LED track light with 4000K bulbs beats the heck out of a crappy flourescent fixture and the bonus I can aim the heads where I need a bit better light
