Advice for wood flooring color needed

Helo Houzz gurus!

We are buying this cabin in the PNW. I would like to add hardwood flooring right away. But I’m concerned that there is already so much wood here that it will be too much (and we aren’t taking out or painting any of the wood ceilings or walls). Andy advice on wood flooring color to work with the wood colors that we have? I have Hallmark oil finish engineered hardwood floors in my current house, and love them. Malibu color which looks like the color in the photo of just flooring. Honestly I may just choose this product again but I’m unsure of the color against the wood wall especially in the cabin.

Any advice?

Pretty house! If you love that flooring, I would get a good sized sample and try it in the space. It looks as if the tone could be off, but computer monitors are unreliable for color. I think the current tile color looks nice with the wood, but I'm guessing it doesn't run under the carpet?

I don't think a wood closer to the wall color would be too much. Looks like you have lots of natural light.

A lot depends on your furnishings, too. I saw this yummy blue with all the wood and it really becomes the focus and the wood becomes background.

Not that flooring for sure it is all wrong for color. I love lsate for floors with wood walls can be real or porcelain tile but IMO too much wood is just usually too much and if not matching just always off .

Here's what Patricia's suggestion looks like. Slate does look really good with wood the color you have, plus it is indestructible and hides a multitude of sins. I would use a porcelain look alike. I've also seen this look in large format squares.

I like hardwood floors, however, I think adding more wood in there would be overkill. I’d look for an alternative. BTW, I think your new place is beautiful.

Painting just the walls will make the ceiling more dramatic. NOT WHITE.

The room doesn't need more wood.

I like the floor you have posted, but not with the wood in your new cabin. Lovely getaway..

A thought: a quality wall to wall indoor/outdoor, installed over the existing tile;sisal look; comes in all sorts of patterns and colors. No worries about dirt/stains/pets.

The carpet would work with the stain of the wood, but it would be a different texture.

    Merida Meridan is another suggestion.

Oh, I wouldn't mind all the wood -- I'd love it, matter of fact. But I'd break it up with large area rugs and such.

You need to get a box of samples and lay them out in the house -- you really need to get the tone right here.

I do like the suggestion of either slate tile (which always looks good with wood IMO) or a light off-white tile in a tone that coordinates with the wood walls/ceiling (that pink-toned tile is awful). I'd prefer the slate, though -- it visually grounds teh room and tonally is going to be much easier to get right. The problem would be tile in such a large living area, though -- something I wouldn't want, but that's just me.

Beautiful cabin, BTW -- lucky you!

You don't see many tiled floors (other than bathrooms) in the Pacific Northwest for a reason. If you decide to go with tile, stone or slate you'll want under floor heating. Go to a good local flooring store and have a conversation.

If you add large area rugs this engineered wood floor could work.

IMO this engineered wood floor is too light for the room.

This engineered floor is too dark for the room.

This is very interesting and helpful. Thank you for taking the time to out this together for me!

I love slate but you'll have to be really careful to pick something that isn't too dark or doesn't have a lot of variation or the room could be too dark and busy. You want the view to be the star.

I like this pale gray slate.

Bring wood samples in and select carefully for a close match. Then use large throw rugs.

Buy a FULL BOX of anything you are considering. Lay out the planks (or tiles) to see as much of it as possible. Beverly did a great job of showing you how different shades of wood might look. I think with a lot of area rugs a wood floor would look great.

I find tile, especially slate, hard to stand on in my kitchen. I extended my wood floor to that area as well. A runner near the sink breaks it up nicely.

    Your cabin is lovely!
