My Regalia has sent totally inappropriately tall scape too

Ken and Gary sent me a division of "gosan lineup" a George Schmid hosta. Dark green leave with yellow stripes. Nothing else like it. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I posted a photo of the 4' stem (petiole). That was my longest/tallest stem ever. I held up a 1 meter stick (39") next to it. The HL says it has a flower spike of over 40". Yup, sure did!

Unfortunately it died the next year, as happend often with the ones you love the most.

Can't find that photo but it is embeded in my brain. Thanks for the wonderful memory, Ken and Gary.

Floral- Of COURSE you are correct! That's not nitpicky. Flowers have stems, and leaves have petioles. ...and I have an old brain. ;-)

Babka, I wish that Ken and I had a Gosan Lineup to have sent you, but what we sent was a Mito-no-hana. Still a striking plant though.

My tallest would be my Joe Pye. I will try to get a photo tomorrow.

Oh Gary! Yes, it was Mito-no-hana. Old brain, at least rememberd a very special hosta that was green with many narrow lines, unlike any I had ever seen before. "Striking" is a perfect description of the gift you sent that was such a fabulous surprise. Somewhere there is a photo of that flower stalk, but that was several computers ago. I'll have to go looking.

Nothing here compares to that beauty Debra. My sagae is about 4’. Air quality here is not good, much better than yesterday.

My tallest stem (or scape in Hosta speak) is Regal Splendor at nearly 6 ft..

Babka, I remember that Mito no hana! I think this where I learned the name and what it was. I have been looking for it since then.

Funny, but yesterday friend at church mentioned that his hostas have really long stems this year. He ain't no gardener so must be some common variety that people generally would have.

I finally cut the “scapes” on that Nigrescens and the tallest scape was 6 feet 4 inches!
