Let me preface this post by saying that I realize I am probably overthinking this.
We are replacing our carpet with engineered hardwood. We (I) am trying to decide between Mannington Mountain View XL champagne 3/8” with a 2mm wear layer and Mannington Maison Provence champagne 9/16” with a 3mm wear layer. I leaning towards the Provence because of the thicker wear layer even though we are 68 and 70 years old and chances are won’t be doing any refinishing of the floors. The wood will meet existing tile in the kitchen, hall bath and entry from the garage. The tile sits 1/2” from the concrete slab which is 33 years old with moisture retardant in the mix. The wood will be glued. Will the transition be a trip hazard with the thicker wood or be obviously noticeable, like a hump in the floor? My flooring guy was trying to show me the slope with a piece of t-mold but would a reducer be used if the heights were slightly different? Because of the price difference, we will leave carpet in the main bedroom and 1 guest room. I am assuming that the carpet meets the wood with just the tack strip.
