You didn't say what color is on the wall. What is the trim color?

Do you want to highlight the peach tones in the surround? Does the rug have peach tones in it? Looks like you have blues as accent colors.

The wall is a light Greige and the trim color is an off-white/cream. I do not want to highlight the peach tones in the marble. Marble has a creamy background. The rug is about 80 years old and colors are somewhat muted. The background is almost a yellowy cream in it. I’ve gravitated toward furniture fabrics in taupe/linen tones and blues- those are the preferred colors.

when I asked what colors, I meant brand® and color name.

Paint it to match your trim/column or leave it alone. Frankly, it looks great as is.

if you're anxious to paint something, paint this cabinet. It is so the wrong color.

I’m sorry. Unfortunately it’s been awhile since we painted and I don’t have the exact paint color. It was Ben Moore, and in searching through a deck I have on hand, the closest chip is BM Natures Essentials #1521. As far as the trim color, also a mystery but definitely a BM color, possibly Lancaster White. I plan to update the trim to BM Swiss Coffee. I hope this helps!

@Beverly- I had someone from Houzz suggest that color, it was so out of my comfort zone. What would you suggest as a color change?

Cheri8, Not all the advice on Houzz is good. Most of it is not, even from posters who claim to be Pros.

Did the person who recommended the color intend on matching the tall lounge chair? That might have been a strategy to consider, but from the photos, which are not always accurate, the louonge chair leans blue and the painted cabinet leans violet.

Your color assessment is correct. I don’t think the advice for violet (chalk paint btw) was to match anything, but instead to be something unexpected in the space.

I don't think the surround ought to be an eye catching statement in the room. White like your trim or a wood and the options. Anything else will come off odd I fear. At first I though eee gads it's high gloss, but it's only the different paints I guess. And when people tell you to "go beyond your comfort zone" use CAUTION!!!! I get that's a common phrase but know that it is meant to manipulate!!! And that isn't often a good thing!!!

Your rooms exude comfort and style . Keep the fireplace the trim colour, and yes to removing the modern painting and changing thdthe colour of the blue cabinet.
