Septic tank, round hole, square peg

My 60 year old septic tank is very rusty and will need to be replaced soon, if not now. It's round and metal. I understand new ones are square. The tank is on a steepish slope that is very rocky --- like plenty of big, glacial boulders. So, finding a new tank that can fit in the hole for the old one would be very helpful. Do they make round septic tanks any more?

I would think that septic tank contractors would be your best source. They've replaced these and they know how this goes.

While it is certainly possible that the new septic tank will be in the same location, it is not necessary that it be so. As the above poster says, consult a local septic tank contractor and see what your options are for your specific situation.

In my area, those tanks cant be replaced, they must have a mound system installed, which is quite expensive.

I see both shapes around here with various gallon capacity. Someone dug a hole for your old one, no reason a hole can't be dug to fit a new one.
