are the photos from a real estate listing or your furniture?

ship lap is a specific style, not suitable for all home designs. You'll need to have a specific wall in mind, generally not a vaulted ceiling application. Have you seen images you like with the ship lap or beadboard? You might post inspiration photos to show what you hope to re create.

Paint will do wonders defining areas. and area rug placement.

A rug under a dining room table isn't necessary, but one defining the living room is.

spinning the sectional away from the windows and facing the TV and fireplace with your console behind to create a welcoming entry way. The red chairs at the window wall.

I would also put the credenza at the stairwell wall rather than a sofa.

Since the exterior appearance of the home is very 'farmhouse' style, I'd consider carrying that into the house. No need to paint. I think a nice bright house is a great backdrop of textures of all types.

The previouse owners didn't se the foyer up correctly IMO. I would not have anything in front of the windows, unless weather demands a bench for removing shoes.

I'd install a chest with mirror above on the far wall.

You have such great volume of space, I'd consider finding a very modern graphic quilt for the upper portion of the wall.

By the staircase I'd add a console table or sideboard with a buffet lamp & a rug on the floor of the foyer.

Find a coordinated pair of large prints for a staggered location on the staircase.

In the living room area I have added something taller over the FP.

Lowered the TV screen

Added drapery panels to the windows

See layout at right. It's hard to see the actual space but I have assembled a layout for the room to maximize seating.

New pics taken by you very important..the few things I feel I can say about what I see are..furnishings have to define the spaces better..things that are taller than the base of the windows feel wrong

A floor plan with measurements would help as well
