That white and wood cabinet below looks so elegant and warm! I think you could try refreshing your current kitchen, and for the countertops, I’d lean toward marble.

Good luck with the 'timeless' choice of materials. We no longer live in a world where kitchen cabinetry and countertop preferences won't change with the decade. Instead of chasing updated/timeless I would find what you truly love, speaks to your heart as you noted and just go for it!! It is your kitchen. You will always love it if you choose what YOU love not what HGTV is pushing this year!! Presently I love when the counter and back splash are the same beautiful stone. It will always be a clean less busy look than all the grout lines of a tile back splash. As with all these design choices it's not new. When we moved into this home it had that look. It was a HIDEOUS dark cave but the idea was the same. hahahahah

White and light wood is such a timeless combo clean, bright, and still cozy. For countertops, quartz is a great low-maintenance option that holds up really well over time. A soft grey or off-white tone could pair beautifully with the wood accents. Excited to see how it turns out.
