Sweet Autumn Clematis in PNW

I used to grow this when I lived in the South, where it is very vigorous and considered a thug because it pops up all over the place. Very beautiful though and I'm tempted to try it here in SW Washington. I keep reading that it needs full sun to bloom well. Would it be okay on an east-facing wall? In the South, it would reliably bloom in partial sun.

While I have yet to see it self seed anywhere here, the vine itself grows like a thug as well. Partial shade does not seem to diminish flowering at all. I had a monster that tried to takeover my Shoreline garden, even after a hard prune every winter.

Thanks so much for your information. I wanted to put it over my garage doors where I hoped I could keep it under control. Maybe I should go with a large flowered variety.
