Will you be changing the rug and since you don’t want green, what color cushions/patterns will you use to complement?

Think big picture and how room will come together.

  • last month

Maureen, thank you so much. I can't change the rug.

Green cushion and curtains will stay. What other colors options I have?

  • last month

Will these pillows will look good next to green pillows?

    Geometric ones 👆

The bigger decision is the chair and if you want vintage/ + these types of cushions, you’ll be heading eclectic, so will have to tie that look together.

Start with chair and then get a lot of cushions (that can be returned) and test. At this stage, I don’t think anyone can help. Maybe post when you have the chair.

U right, let me find a chair first.

Maureen, so I can't mix vintage and eclectic styles?

you can add a ceramic bowl, big pot for the plant, in your accent color of choice.

I suggested the chair Burnt Umber, because the red tone looks great with the green and the beige in the room... even the blue pillow would look great with Burnt Umber.

Lyn, I also like the color burnt umber. I am looking for some burnt umber printed one. Not just plain. Some designs.

In answer to your question, see below. It’s not easy to achieve, so I’d suggest just trying to complement what you have. You are better getting art if you want more interest, vs adding a chair and cushions that don’t relate.

You mentioned you have to keep the rug and imo those flowery prints are not going to work with your rug.

  • last month

Yes keeping rug, sage pillows and curtains

You said you don't want brown and you don't want earthy colours, but burnt umber is brown. Brown is earthy. Maybe you changed your mind?

Burnt umber would look good in your room. Here are various shades of burnt umber.

I like burnt amber color. No green because curtains, walls, pillows and plants 🪴 r all green.

Choosing a standout chair for the living room is more than just picking something that “looks good”, it’s about scale, comfort, and visual harmony. First, always pull in the room’s dimensions. A chair that’s too deep or wide can choke circulation and throw off balance. Next, think about the purpose: is it for lounging and reading, for extra seating during gatherings, or to fill a vacant corner? That helps you decide between swivel, lounge, slipper, or accent chair types.

Then match style cues: if your sofa is sleek and modern, a mid-century or low profile lounge chair will complement; if the room feels more layered or traditional, go for something with softer curves, wood arms or interesting upholstery. One of the Houzz discussions made a smart point, the accent chair shouldn’t compete with your main seating or rug, but support it. Lastly, pick a fabric or finish that can take wear (especially if you have kids/pets) consider performance fabrics, removable covers, or durable textures. Place the chair at a slight angle toward your sofa or focal point (TV, fireplace) and test it in real use.

I was curious on what you decided and not choosing the floral chair is a good decision.

Burnt amber combo if still considering.

Can’t go wrong though with beige, cream, or ivory (will have more chairs and cushion options to choose from).

Am liking the suggestions you have been given so far especially the burnt orange. Also Marureen suggest two colors of pillows - green and a deep earthy golden color. I am thinking the deep earthy golden color would work well for your chair.

Maureen, i like burnt amber color, but not yellow and orange shades

But i am having hard time finding burnt umber chair that is affordable

Consider a neutral chair at this point (more options, easier to find, more price points). Add burnt umber cushions in room, but you mentioned you didn’t want brown, which it basically is.

  • last month

I thought burnt umber is brown reddish. No?
I guess brown will work too.

So then brown chair ok too? If I decided not to go for neutral color chair?

This is a more contemporary floral print that carries the colors of your existing area rug. Found this in the Houzz shop.

I would suggest a pull-up chair (a wooden frame with exposed legs & upholstered seat/possibly upholstered back) this would will allow more seating without visually overcrowding the room. You could go with a painted frame or a ~black stain . Select your art and then choose a color in the art to coordinate with the upholstery on the new chair.

Figure out what style would suit the room first. This is simple and classic.

This is more tufted and cushy.

I was thinking to get this

I’d recommend a hand-painted chair with a bright, artistic flair — something that adds a bold accent without clashing with the warm wood tones.

Think vibrant linework, playful abstract patterns, or even a splash of red, cobalt blue, mustard yellow, or black-and-white detailing. It could really bring that left corner to life and serve as a functional statement piece. I’d be happy to suggest a few options or create something custom if you'd like!

Poovi stop trolling for business. And anyway those hand-painted chairs are very garish--I wouldn't take one for free.

IMO get some art on the walls then choose a color from that for a chair and ottoman since one lonely chair will look odd

At this point you’ve received a myraid of suggestions (although no one knows your budget). The safest, since so unsure, is a solid that works with your colors/furniture’s style/rug as it‘s important to consider the entirety of a room. Accessorizes is where interest can be added and will tie a room together.

Hello everyone, so I bought a new rug. 1st picture is my current rug and 2nd is new. I took a close up pic. Which one u like?

I like your current rug better. Why are you looking for a different one?

    I also like first one

Redryder, so I bought these 2 chairs and this pillow. I really like the pillow as it was suggested here. I will keep the pillow. But for some reason chairs didn't look nice I don't if it was a rug. So I returned the chairs. I saw a reel which had same colors sofa as mine plus this new rug. I ordered it to try it on.
So I removed yellow and teal pillow, and going for earthy feeling.
