Art or something behind bed

This is our master bedroom. I am looking for ideas for art behind the bed. A friend painted me a long painting but it wasn’t quite right in the space so we took it down and I patched it, haven’t painted, and I do want to put something up. Our room is very neutral and plain. For now we like that and just want to add something simple and appropriate above the bed but I’m not sure what. I was actually contemplating a fake or real living plant thing. Not sure if people know what I mean, just to get some green in the room. For now we are not changing other items in the space as they work well for us.

The bed frame is too tall to support fall art like this. That was part of the problem with the first art. The space between top of bed frame and ceiling is 51 inches

    Tall not fall!

All art doesn't have to be at eye-level ... I don't see why taller art wouldn't work.

The proportion looks weird as it makes it too close to the ceiling.

You could do a faux living wall there. A true living wall would be a mess over your bed + they are difficult to keep looking nice.

You could also use real preserved moss - there are different kinds. You could add some air plants to it - those would be easier to take care of in the space.

The one below uses preserved moss + olive wood:

They can be different shapes (hexagons for example) + different sizes. They are usually fairly expensive - prices on Etsy are better usually than on Wayfair. HOWEVER - they are NOT difficult to make + are quite a bit less expensive.

You could also do one using some real touch flowers/plants/succulents.

I'm going to go look for the air plant one that I made for my sister + the one with succulents that I made for my cousin - I'll be back!

get something shorter then. it's merely a suggestion on the style of art. Something serene you said you wanted a plant or something...

@dani just looked at Etsy and there are some beautiful ones. I’m going to see if I can source anything locally so I can get a proper sense of it. Hard to tell online what it would ac to ally be like

I have a friend who makes real indoor living walls - but they are typically for commercial buildings and require a lot of care:

This is what I first read when I began making a faux succulent wall. I didn't use only succulents - I used moss + river stones + succulents + I don't remember!

There are some pretty realistic faux succulents - and I'm picky because I have a pretty large collection of live succulents (no faux ones). The ones below were from Amazon:

It's nice to use a few because you can add a pop of color if you want - there are so many pretty succulents:

Here is a real diy living wall indoors:

you really need to research to determine the correct plants to use and location to install it. There are ones that have been posted on Reddit + people will help you if you want to make one. However, preserved moss one with different types of moss/river rocks/preserved flowers are really nice - and much easier!

You can achieve balance, interest and a botanical feel with wallpaper. Be sure it complements your bedding/wall color and suggest going light/airy to offset the darker feeling. Add a larger cushion or two so as to enhance what you added above (even turn comforter down to create a nicer layered look). The overall effect is as important as what you add on the wall.

You can also test height/width and placement of pictures by taping sizes onto wall. Once you are happy with placement, then start your search (three would be my recommendation).

In reality we aren’t adding more throw pillows or turning bedding down. Maybe for pictures or if someone came over. But if I’m honest bulk of the pillows love in closet! Just looking for wait to out above bed.

Is one long something not a good idea?

Add kraft paper to test (see examples above + one long one) or purchase and return if doesn’t look right. It really is based on taste and how you feel.

    A mural perhaps.

Maureen excellent idea! Thank you. Then I know what I want and can find it.

One long piece further accentuates the low ceiling in your room. The 'sofa art' size is usually an item sold at low end furniture stores. It's not a typical size format artists select for their paintings unless the paintings are simply graphic and contemporary.

Add 3 prints that are low contrast to the neutral colors you currently have in your room. Add plants that need low light or very little light (or artificial ones) to the bedside tables for a little bit of color and texture.

A battery operated light could be added above the prints to highlight them at night. I like a dim glow in my bedroom at night, but that's just a personal preference.

It’s not a low ceiling lol. It’s 9 feet high.

Do you have an overhead light? If you add a more substantial chandelier type light fixture it will help visually "fill" the upper level of the room and make the art look less lonely. A throw at the end of the bed will help the space look more finished as well.
This is a chat gpt rendering. I don't love the choices but it gives you an idea of the concepts.

Yes there’s an overhead light you just can’t see it in the picture. It’s a small room overall as we don’t spend much time in it. I won’t use a throw, I know myself. Just focusing on art for now.

I’m back wondering if something over the bed makes sense. I’ve been seeing threads about bedroom decor and while sometimes it seems art makes sense others it doesn’t. Would it be better to focus on new lamps and maybe mirrors behind them or art on the sides? Or what about an accent wall of a darker colour? Obviously would need to repair wall
