If you could post a bigger picture with the blank space above and below cropped out, that might help.

Otherwise, easy changes would be to replace the dark stools and rugs with something brighter and more colorful. I'd replace the two boob lights and the light over the table. The first two will need to be replaced with something flush mount or semi-flush mount depending on the space. The light over the table might have a bit more wiggle room (pending ceiling and table height) so you may be able to go with something on a chain or down rod there.

Change the black hardware and switch plates from black to brass. Paint the walls from grey to a creamy white that pics up on tones of the countertops. Paint the dark woodk ceiling and window trim the same color as your new wall color.

Getting rid of the hightop table (I assume it is not yours) will make it much more modern.

Find lighting and stools that you love, that bring in personality and color, hopefully with some brass accents. Though, I don't quite understand that lighting layout. Maybe it is just the angle of the picture. The placement doesn't make much sense to me.

Is this is a house you are thinking of buying?

Looks pretty light and bright to me. I would just ditch the stools and the dark floor mats. Lighting could be changed just to make it more pleasing vs. lighter and brighter.
