I would say depends on the land. I have willow coppiced in a couple areas. Great garden staves, and they act as a stabilizer in a water movement area of the yard. But they are a nope in other areas because of the things that make them great where I leave them. Sassafrass in some areas make lovely tunnels shading paths and wildlife- and also good staves. But in other spots they are an invasive nuisance. Other trees in other places.. bla, bla, bla.

Yes, coppiced trees can offer significant benefits. And also, much coppicing means no fruiting/nuts from it. If you are looking for wildlife feeding as a benefit, and you have mostly oaks or other non-fruiting plants... I would add in some fruiting bushes or trees that would not get coppiced in addition to coppiced plants.

Do you know at what height they would produce? Also, one of my reasons for thinning the trees is to allow more water for an understory, but does a coppiced tree with its intact root system still hog the water?
