Certified kitchen designers

Hi All,

Have you worked with remotely with a certified kitchen designer to help plan

and design your kitchen before remodeling?

if yes, any pros and cons?

Is it as effective as an in-person designer?

Recommendations for a great CKD who does virtual consultations would be highly appreciated

For reference, we live in South central Wisconsin.

Thank you!

There will be few CKD's who will do this, unless you are using their own cabinetry, or the supplier that CKD may be using.

Where it CAN be done is here, free, assuming you do a some homework.

The homework means a hard and very exacting measure of your kitchen as is, to include the surrounding areas. .....

    That means......!!

Every solid wall to the inch

    Every window to the inch

Every opening to the inch...where it leads

All in a scaled drawing, graph paper is fine, Bold , legible, 1/4 inch = 2 squares.

    All this info...

Then you add a LOT OF PICTURES, JPEGS, No screen shots.

You state the goals, you want it bigger, you are willing to knock a wall, not do that. ...You add an inspo picture or three of a dream kitchen you favor.

If you have a floor plan for the entire living floor? That is a bonus and you can also draw/measure that; an IMPERFECT below....missing dimensions for all the walls and windows......and openings!: (

    Why?

Because a "remote" CKD, ? There are those, right here in this site, along with interior designers and contributors by the dozen who have done their own kitchens with much success.

The same HOMEWORK would be required of you, to pay and work remotely.: )

Try it here, first. As all above. Don't start a new thread, begin right below in the comments.

Need an example of how this works? Right here......( link )

Note too.......it isn't PERFECT, because to now? The exact inches for all as I stated? Those are still missing, as is the op: )

IMO you will never get as good an outcome to your project unless the person doing the design is on site. There are too many tiny items that will slip through the cracks trying to design a kitchen remotely.

Would you date someone only through FACETIME? Nufsaid.

Wellllllllll? There have been some REALLY happy campers here , Yes they had a contractor and usually a local cabinet maker or cabinet shop. The shop? Usually just wants to sell the cabinetry. The contractor is NEVER your designer.

    Want a happy camper example?

Don't even try to read it on an Iphone. You need a laptop or at least an Ipad

Remote design is only as good as the information given the designer. And homeowners are pretty clueless about how muchinformation is needed, as well as how to accurately measure, and include all of the obstacles. The adjacent rooms matter. THe layout of the whole house matters. The paths and circulation matter. Space planning is not "just" a box to check. It's part of a much bigger whole. As are selections.

Nothing was ever worse than people who got the idea to "update" a kitchen with all gray everything in a house full of stained wood, and warm colors. Which, if it was all you focused on, might look drab, but OK. But you have to bigger picture the all.

When you are in someone's home, you see the cat bowl and tower, and the kids toy chest, the water damage on the existing cabinets, and the brand new tan carpet in the dining room, and the coffered ceiling in the living room that just sorta floats there, with no connection to the kitchen, etc. The Dr.'s prescription pad can solve some of the immediacy in front of them. But they also look at the bigger picture, and tell you to get more exercise, or counseling for the stress you're dealing with at work. It's always a bigger picture.
