A friend is remodeling and showed me a porcelain slab dupe of Taj Mahal quartzite. Very realistic copy. She priced out the thinner slabs for a standard tub to shower conversion. They wanted $16K for the material/install for just the 3 shower walls. Way too much for a rarely used secondary bathroom, so she is out tile shopping for standard porcelain tiles.

Still risky because of the chipping.

But this material allows you to round or ease the edges so it’s not as susceptible to any damage

Brittleness of the material doesn’t change just because the color goes through. It doesn’t have the resin in it that ”softens” it and gives it a bit of flexibility.

You need to get a sample and play with it. See what it takes to damage it, if possible. I hope the product has been improved.

Chipping is much less problematic with through-body materials, as the chip can often be abraded away, unlike sintered.

I am currently looking at this product + a couple other new ones.

I want marble in my kitchen - but my SO's "habits" make me concerned (and I don't want to have to be the marble police - I know it will patina - but I think he will be extra rough on a marble countertop!)

I should be receiving some samples soon. I will let you know after I've played with them for awhile!

For me real stone or total other material no stone lookalike will even mimic real. I love marble and with really a minimum of care can be an awesome choice . We have friends in Ital , large family and well used kitchen, the cararra marble counters are 40 yrs old . Yes they have apatine it is called life and somehow makes the stone look warm and inviting . Maybe not pristine and thta is what makes it beautiful. The kids paint on it, make cookies no cutting board and a good wip down takes care of most stuff.
