Why must it be a sectional, walling OFF whatever is in front of that space?

I understand the "cozy corner" concept, but you get that, along with the LOSS of ANY versatility in furniture arrangement, forever..

Show the whole space, and better yet, do a drawing that includes the entire space and all dimensions........for everything.

That’s a beautiful setup — the cognac sofa adds such warmth and richness to the space! To create contrast without changing the wall color, you could introduce a statement artwork above the sofa — something with cool tones like teal, blue, or soft gray to balance the warmth. A textured or abstract piece would instantly elevate the room and tie everything together. You can also layer a patterned rug and a few accent cushions in complementary shades to add depth and visual interest.

You will get much better feedback if you make a simple drawing with measurements. Your pictures distort the size of the room.

You have a grand room with a great fireplace and beautiful light and windows and everything just revolves around a TV. It is a bit soul crushing in that respect. Do you want multiple seating areas in here - something near the fireplace, or just to ignore the fireplace for the TV magnet?

I get that painting this space is insanely expensive. The color is fine. Any interest in painting the trim the same color as the wall? Then you have more options for hanging artwork without competing with the molding.

I like the cognac but the back view of the sectional is dominating the entire room. It's not cozy or attractive. You could add some sofa tables with lamps behind it to break it up but I prefer the look of sofas and chairs in a room rather than one giant piece of furniture.

Why not make your room more approachable with a series of sofas and lounge chairs? They also lend themselves to the use of end tables and lamps which your room will require. Not all the light should come from above.

Love the cognac but not a sectional ever IMO you have what appears to be a large space so 2 sofas and maybe 4 chairs could work but 2 sofas and 2 chairs for sure . The bonus is you can rearrange the seating at will . I would add a low cabinet under the TV to ground it. Good lighting with table lamps and floor lamps a coffee table quite large and then end tables where needed . Once the furniture is chosen and in place then you think about the rug . I do not like chandeliers that light the ceiling instaed of the space , I am not a huge fan of that wall trim in such a large space IMO needed to be bigger and maybe the whole wall done in a more graphic style wall trim. Not sure why wall color can't change but it seems fine to me . Of course art it is what says you in a space IMO I never choose art for clients . BTW really hard to give real advice when no context as to yur style at all.

I have a great room with a sectional. I would love to change it. Two sofas, a couple of chairs and end tables would be a more user-friendly set up. Beverly’s idea is definitely better.

And I have a great room with a sectional and two chairs and I love it and would never want two sofas. It really is personal decision on what you like. I don’t mind the sectional you chose at all and think with other pieces and colour etc it can look beautiful

Regarding your question around color, it’s really a personal decision, especially if starting from scratch. If choosing grey, don’t suggest leather and even consider velvet as it’s very durable and cozy. Be sure to consider your seating/overall family needs (chairs could help balance room/provide extra seating options).

Its color won’t matter as much as its style, the decor/accessories and if you look on line for inspiration it could help with decisions to achieve the look you are after; a room is a sum of its total. Good luck..you have a lovely room to work with.

I also love a sectional. I usually end up in the corner with my feet up towards the TV. You don't say how many you need to sit but it looks like there is room for 3 seats on both sides. I like the cognac leather. It's what we have.

You can get a swivel chair for near the fireplace for the heat or the window view or the tv. An accent color like cobalt blue or neutral like oatmeal which is what we got in a PB Wells performance suede and it has held up well. We use a small moveable ottoman for it.

You could move the sectional closer to the column if not backed up to it and hopefully have an outlet there or installed or in the floor for end table lamps or floor lamp.

I like the large white/off white rug like you show. Ours has a bit of blue pattern in it. Wool is comfy with a pad and I have lounged on it to watch tv as extra seating when guests.

The large art suggested would be a nice focal point for above the mantle to draw the eye from the tv tho I'm not fond of florals.

Thank u so much everyone for the lovely suggestions. i was debtating between getting two couhes vs the sectional but both my kids love to hang out in front of Tv and my youngest love sleeping on the couch so i thought the sectional will give them the confort of that additonal extended space. since I have not finalized the sectional, i am defi open to look at other options. i will draw a picture of the room and will upload shortly. cheers.

Please consider guests who come to visit. Not everyone will be drawn to stretch out on the sofa like your teens. Some of us need arm chairs to help lift us from seated positions. You’d be surprised how adults often gravitate toward club chairs rather than low, deep sectionals if given the option.

Adding a couple of chairs is a great idea but I would never plan my home for the occasional guest. I plan it for those who are there daily and enjoy it.

We have modern versions of what Beverly posted, 2 sofas & two swivel chairs, looks great. However, our two pre teens always gravitate to the sectional we have in another room, they much prefer that. Get what works for you & your family.

Everyone has their own opinion, often pedantic, , one size doesn’t always fit all.

@WestCoast Hopeful …. True , some of our guests dislike the style ( too modern ) & comfort ( or lack, many prefer pillowy cushions ) of our furniture but we buy what we like & comfortable for us, even our mattress is firm.
