I am planning the replace couches. I am not changing floor, paint on walls, tables. Suggestions pls for new couch and table configuration and coach color? This is a Basement walk out, Tuscan style. Thank you! (Pls ignore messy floor, it is an empty space)

I'm sure, though comfortable, you have learned that your seating is too large in scale for the room. Everything you select should fit inside the confines of the wall since you don't want to remove the arched opening.

Looks like all the seating reclines. Is that still necessary for the sofa against the wall or just for the two chairs facing the TV?

Since your TV is nicely mounted on the wall, perhaps the media cabinet currently holding photographs could be removed and replaced with picture ledges mounted on the wall to hold the family photos.

Selecting recliners raised an legs will give the illusion of space in the area. These pieces are less in width, but unfortunately pretty deep at 41". That migth be deeper than what you currently own.

I would embrace that this seems to be a tv space and get something that faces the tv and is lower profile but still cozy. The layout now is far too cramped for the space and not good for watching tv. To be honest, if it were me I would swap the gym and tv spots. Would give you far more space.

Can you get two more chairs similar those you have, on swivels, and arranged around a round, reachable coffee table? That way everyone can be comfy conversing or watching TV. Remove the bookshelves with all the photos.

agree with the above statements. a low profile sofa and swivel chairs.

I personally would put the sofa on the wall where the credenza is now, so you have a clear path to the doorway. adding an area rug to cozy up the feel. Blues would compliment your flooring, and olive green and navy look great together.

Agree with smaller couches however just four chairs don’t leave enough seating. How would you configure couches/chairs? Facing each other?

Sofas or chairs facing one another are not conducive for TV watching. You can't have it all. There's only so much square footage in the area and it can't do all you desire.

We don't have any dimensions of the space but maybe a wedge sectional could work.

Just depends on how small the modular pieces are.

You used the word "couches," Do you have more than one? Just get a smaller proportioned but comfortable couch and put it where you have one couch now. Or:

Get one small curved/sectional couch--not a huge puffy one--but with low arms and low back--to accommodate more viewers and just have one swivel armchair.

Please note how the consistent picture framing in this basement room is so much more inviting and interesting than little framed photos you have which seemed cluttered on all different surfaces.

Here's a very popular inspiration photo on Houzz--low sectional couch, no armchairs, but comfortable dining chairs at a counter level sofa table--easy to customize. This divides the basement into a TV zone with the rest of the space for other activities. Sofa table is handy for snacks and drinks.

Think about something like this to replace your dropped ceiling tiles. Paint ceiling and mechanicals, add small lights.

It's hard to tell without a floor plan, but would it be possible to move the tv/sitting area over so it's near thewindows, kitchenette and the woodstove. You could then use the area where the tv is now as an exercise space.

I don't have a floor plan with dimensions but instead of having an exercising area between the kitchen and family room would you be able to place the exercise area at the far end of the room where you presently have the TV room? Seems strange to have an exercise area between the kitchen and the TV room.

I'll leave the layout to the pros but I completely understand the exercise area in front of the slider. That's where mine is. I would have lost my mind during the pandemic if I hadn't been able to gaze outside while I exercised. Even now when it's not my exclusive exercise place, I love to workout and look out.

How much seating do you need, and how often do you need it?

What is through the door in the corner?

This is a tight space and it looks awkward having seating beyond the opening. It's also not arranged well for TV viewing.

It also looks like the TV is on the short wall?

I would move the TV to the longer wall (if it's not there) and get a sectional. Not normally a fan of those but for this space it looks like you need it.

It’s a basement. No kitchen. That’s just a bar in back. No gym the weights were just in floor.like idea of sectional with a short end and another chair, thank you. Behind wall is a bathroom and other door is closet.

The arch naturally creates a zone, placing the chairs outside of it looks forced. It's also a tight squeeze to get by the recliners into the space. The coffee table doesn't really serve any purpose because it's too far from the sofa but moving it closer will block the path to the bathroom and closet. Here's a possible layout change:

Open up a path on the left side of the space where the sofa is now.

    • Move the TV and mount it on that wall, you may be able to use the bookcase as a console underneath but maintaining flow through the space is more important.
    • Place a sofa facing it on the opposite wall. If you like the idea of recliners, there are recliner sofas.
    • A smaller swivel chair can be angled at the corner of the built in to allow the person sitting there to turn to watch the TV.
    • Place art where the TV is now and above the sofa.
    • Change the wall sconce to an art light above.
    • Add an end table, cocktail table and floor lamps as well as an area rug.
    • If you decide on a traditional sofa, you may be able to keep the coffee table.

If you don't use the middle section of the basement for workouts, it would be an ideal place to create another zone. Some seating around the fireplace or four swivel chairs and a coffee table, or float a games table in the middle.
