It is hard to tell what this space does, besides laundry. Is it also the entry from the garage? What is on the floor? on the shelves to the left? What else happens in this room?

Why don’t you want another cabinet?

I finally figured out what that yellow distraction is on the left, I think. A wreath hanging on the door!

The subtle wallpaper is nice so I think instead of another cabinet I’d do a couple of open shelves. Line them up with the cabinet on the right and paint them to match it. Then you could clear off the brown/wood surface and have room for folding and stacking.

The wall color seems pretty drab but maybe it’s a trick of the lighting. Or maybe you just need more light. I can’t tell if there’s a window anywhere.

Definitely a shelf - running cabinet to wall. Maybe up high with a hang rod for drying clothes? Or down lower so you can grab your supplies (get stuff off the counter).

We keep laundry in the bedrooms until time to wash, and back to the bedrooms to fold on the beds. It saves a lot of space in the laundry room.

Is it possible to rearrange the lower cupboard, washer and dryer so that the cuoboard is in the middle? If so, I would start there, and at the same time remove the inner shelf in the cupboard so the hamper could go in there.

Then I would either centre that wall cupboard and put two shelves on either side between it and the walls, or move it altogether to a different wall and have two shelves all the way across.

Lastly, the grey on the cupboards is a warm grey while the grey on the wallpaper and ceiling is a cool grey. I would repaint the cupboards (including the top surface of the lower cupboard) in a cool grey, along with the new shelves.

This is where we’re at now. Would it look stupid if I put two floating shelves on the left side?

Please don’t he upset but this doesn’t seem to be an improvement. Before it made sense where stuff was. Why the change to this?

Are you interested in making it more cheerful? Perhaps whimsical? Changing the wallpaper and painting the olive green cabinet to match the new wallpaper would be a big change. An easier and quicker change would be to pick out a new light fixture that you love.
