I love when things like this happen. Lol I need posts like this to justify my procrastination.

For a few years I had the most beautiful columbine growing between bricks in my patio. Big healthly plant, gorgeous purple color. I finally had to move it because the bricks around it were started to shift. (It died after I moved it. See? Sometimes procrastination is good!)

It's a Denver Daisy - Rudbeckia hirta. Which where I am behaves as an annual.

Folks with wet winters might have troubles wintering rudbeckia hirta, though these are reliable biannual in my far north location. The ground tends to freeze down several inches and then gets insulated and covered over with snow that generally sticks and stays. I've only lost plants twice in the last eighteen years due to lack of snow cover, otherwise this rudbeckia thrives rather like a weed!
