Help with this tiny break room PLEASE

Break room? I assume for employees at a place of business to eat lunches, have coffee breaks? Is there a frig / micro nearby or only this space? Without info on supply budget - well, here’s what I’d try. Change out the table for a rectangle - narrow rectangle with legs at each corner. No pedestal type. No table cloth either. Too hard to keep clean. This should allow at least one more chair along a side so you’d have 6 chairs . If table is long enough & there’s enough floor space, add a chair at each end for total of 8 chairs. Remove the multiple bulletin boards. Either get one large cork BB or get a larger white board & larger cork BB. Looks like the white board isn’t being used for writing so really I’d swap for a large cork board to fill the space. Don’t allow postings to be hanging from the walls - all must be on cork board.

Yes there’s a sink fridge and coffee station on the other side. I want to make where we sit and eat more pretty

In my work space my goal is clean and not fussy. Reason is that ”someone” has to clean up the ’pretty’. I think my suggestions of the rectangular wipe clean table - which can be a bright & colorful table top - creates a better, easier way to keep the space tidy & therefore, inviting. More chairs are always a good thing, Less clutter on the walls is always better too.

Waht is behind the curtain ? I agree no table cloth ever , one large cork board . How many at one time in the space ?KNowing measurements is very helpful along with a bit more info. I think a narrow rectangulatr table along that wall would maybe work better but I have no idea of size of space or how many at atime in the space

Behind the curtain is a little storage. We are a non profit I don’t think there are funds to buy anything or remodel. I I just

Want ideas on making it look better. Up to 5 peeps sit and eat together

I get it. beyond the curtain is understairs, so really only usable for storage. It’s a vintage space, go with that.

The yellow walls are cheery and homey, but the curtain and tablescarf are the wrong shade of grey. I would rather see no tablecloth but rather a runner, but that depends on what the table surface looks like. Perhaps a vintage scarf that picks up the red and yellow?

I wonder if a patterned white would look better than the grey curtain? A shower curtain can be more affordable than a curtain.

The notices on the wall need to be aligned. A cork strip can look tidier than a bulletin board because everything has to be aligned.

And of course, some pretty art. Check your thrift stores for art, or posters. Even pretty cards popped in a frame you might have at home.

Can someone make a mood board for me to visualize it

If the budget is zero, you can simply neaten up the bulletin boards, remove the basket and table cloth, apply some Pledge to the table to make it easier to wipe down, and be done with it.

If you have a small budget, look for a framed poster of a pretty area near your location.

Alternatively, thrift shops and estate sales in upscale areas occasionally have nice framed artwork if you keep checking over the course of a year.

Zero funds: if the items on wall could be moved to the other area, ask if people have old pictures at home, as a collage will do wonders. Remove table cloth and paint table if in bad shape (ask around for left over paint).

$50 or less - ask people if they want to contribute $10 and head to ie: Home Depot, as they usually have full cans of paint that were returned for cheap. Painting that whole area (including the door) would do a lot. Head to a thrift shop for art if needed, a colorful curtain and placemats. It’s ok not to match as an eclectic look can be fun.

Along the same lines, can you find another location for all the notice material and boards on the walls? Just removing all that will give a more relaxing feeling to the space.

I need to see the whole space .

Everyone thinks yellow is cheery, but in practice it can just read ”yellowed” as in old. A change in the wall color might help. Replacing the chairs with benches can give you more useable space. The benches below are on sale at Plank+Beam for $119 each. Then your color scheme would be blond wood, blue, and grey, a much more calming and pleasant palette than you have now. Good luck.

Nothing matches. Ideally, you'd get a brighter curtain. But a bright yellow and red tablecloth would pull in both colors and make the space look less like random donated stuff. Search on line. I found something from Walmart that might work.

For around 20 bucks you could swap out the tablecloth and curtain for something prettier from the dollar store. The current greige colors aren't doing the room any favors.

I like the round, friendly table but not with the tablecloth. Paint the table black. Get a nicer bulletin board and a couple really inexpensive abstract prints from society6.com that pick up colors of the chairs, wall color, etc. There's a ton of them like this--cheery, colorful, graphic

Save one bulletin board for business notices and use the other one for work mates to post cards, photos, inspiration ideas, small cute clock.

I agree with eam44 that yellow doesn't always feel cheery. It's okay but maybe a sophisticated tan that matches that sliding curtain would be an upgrade.

No benches please! Absolutely terrible on your back and what grown up wants to sit with their colleagues on a bench? Honestly get rid of the table cloth and get a plant. Add a few more plants and Thats really all you need. Add some staff pics in the room or positive feedback and messaging people have received x

i'd rather have a lunch counter attached to the wall.....w a curve you actually do get conversation [do you want that?] as the stools arent really lined up in a row. there is no cabinetry/ no sink/ no microwave/ no fridge...are those things elsewhere/ i've never seen a break room like yours . if you just bring your sack of food or coffee cup then remove things I think the counter would be sufficient and less hassle w table legs etc.

curve some corian or granite and attach it to the wall .....place postings on cork on the door or sections of wall behind , or elsewhere in the area.

Some fun fabric on cork board and the curtain. use bed sheets. contact paper or paint instead of table cloth. Dollar tree has small sheets of peel and stick in fun designs.

The yellow looks a bit dingy, but if you keep it, just put up a brighter more attractive curtain. I want to see gingham or checks for some reason in yellow and white or turquoise and white.

Are people actually using this space now, gathering in it and having nice lunches together? If so, that is what matters. I work at a non-profit too. We are lucky to have a huge island with stools on one side where people sit and the rest of us stand and gather around on the other side. We love taking and laughing and seeing what everyone has for lunch.

I'd never want to sit on a bench next to my coworkers. Too intimate, especially when eating. No table cloth. Yucky. You need a surface that can be wiped down. No basket either.
