Gifts for Men

last month

Eld I hope you don't mind that I created this new topic focusing on gift ideas for men-- they are the hardest for me and I have quite a few men to buy for!

Please share your ideas .. as well as the challenging recipients in your life. Hopefully we ALL get ideas!

Obviously I understand there is crossover between gifts for men and women but I will just say it to get that out of the way :)

    those belts are great!

I was reminiscing with my sister earlier, about our Dad. ( It was his birthday yesterday. would have been 114). He used to say all he needed was socks and undershirts. So we would give him those. We both remember that after he passed, his dresser was full of unopened packages of undershirts.

Oye. Rogue Industries sends too many emails. I haven’t rcvd the wallet yet but I’ve had 8-10 emails in three days. Once I get the wallet, and know I’m keeping it, I will unsubscribe. Maybe they think we’re now IFFs and need to stay in touch? We don’t.

I don't know if you all have discovered the ranch-hand stores? Big R? They have nice leather belts for men & blue jeans. They're good quality. Made to last. Not designer expensive. Link

I will be giving this to some men that love to work in the garage. It would be a cool stocking stuffer.

Salonva, your story of your dad is so poignant. He probably just wanted to make your lives easy with gifts for him.

I give my DSIL socks for Christmas every year customized with pictures. Before the kids came along, I used pictures of his dog. Now it is the kiddos. Last year, I had the kids draw self-portraits and used those for the pictures (DGS did a stick figure 🙄). I use DivvyUp LINK.

Here are some ideas. The MOMA clock looks so cool. I got one of the Funko Pop figures for oldest DS last year and it was hilarious, it looks so much like him.

Looking to buy DH a new travel toiletery bag. If I am remembering correctly, there was a recommended bag in the last year or two. I searched and could not find the post. If anyone has a recommendation, I would be appreciative.

I recommended this Barbour washbag 4-5 yr ago. I loved it and gave quite a few of them as gifts.

I happen to need one again this year for my secret gift exchange at work .. but unfortunately, they don't make this style anymore. I don't like the new plaid as much and it isnt wool-- which is part of what I think made the one above distinctive.

I am still looking so would love to see what others suggest.

I got this one from Etsy for DH a few years ago. It has been on many trips since then!

I do like the idea of waxed canvas.. presumably that cleans up easily.

I am also looking for a good quality travel tech organizer (one for me.. and one for my secret gift exchange guy)

DH likes cocktails. Last year I gave him the book Drinking French by David Lebovitz and a bottle of yellow chartreuse since I could not find the green locally. This year I ordered a bottle of green Chartreuse. I think for Valentine's Day I will probably give him a selection of chartreuse substitutes to taste test since chartreuse will continue to be a difficult acquisition.

I will also be ordering him dress socks from London Sock Co. He usually prefers over the calf socks and London Sock does not have many of those but he says the mid-calf from London Sock actually stay up.

Other than that, he will get a vintage Steinbach ornament of one of the musketeers (a particular favorite book of his) and some vintage damascene cuff links (probably).

The younger men in my life (19, 21, and 27) will receive a combination of tech gifts, Legos, gift cards and clothes. My nephews usually receive gift cards to movie theaters.

@Funkyart, I have a tech organizer from Calpak and really like it. It’s nicely compartmented and thin, even with cords and power banks stored inside.

    Calpak Link

One item my DH loved to buy for our grandkids (male and female) was a portable charger for their cars. He has since replaced a few. They now have one that includes an air compressor that’s a bit more expensive. They were used quite a bit when the kids were in college as someone always seemed to have a dead battery. DGD apparently became quite well known in her crowd as ‘the girl who could jump start a car‘ and DH always carries his too. We rescued an older couple and their friends at a restaurant parking lot one night when we were on a car trip. They had left lights on and DH got them started and on their way. The driver was just amazed when DH did that.

You can buy them just about anywhere…auto supply places, Big Box stores and of course Amazin. LINK

Thank you everyone for the links and suggestions. I am leaning toward the waxed canvas at this point😊

I bought one of these nightstand organizers for DH for Father's Day and he loves it! It not only keeps his "stuff" organized and visible, it also charges his cell phone overnight which is an added bonus

Now I just need ideas for this Christmas!!!

Great ideas! Last year I got my husband some Pacas socks. He LOVES them. They are often 50% off and probably have a deal right now or will soon. This month for his birthday I got him an alpaca sweater from a local alpaca farm. He wore it to work for the first time yesterday and said people complimented him all day. Seems like alpaca farms are all over the place these days, so if you have one by you, check it out!

I'll put another plug in for the Paca socks - I bought those for my niece's DH two years and converted him from his long time love of Darn Tough - I also personally prefer them to DT now too. I find them to be warmer and softer.

@LynnNM, i tried to send you a message but it didn’t go through. Can you please post the source for the nightstand organizer? I’ve found several. There are several sold by Etsy crafters/sellers. I’d prefer to Not buy from Temu or any similar company if possible.

    Thank you.

Love this idea for DH and SIL.

For your "apple" people, the Belkin charger is a great gift. It also cleans up all the messy charging cords.

@tishtoshnm Zone 6/NM - I know that you just gave your DH a cocktail book last year, but I thought I mention this one for whenever you need a little gift for him.

Death & Co. has has four locations: NYC/D. C./Denver/L. A.

I've been to the one in NY and in Denver. I bought my SO the first book below (the black one) as one of his Christmas gifts last year - and he's really enjoyed making different cocktails from it over the past year. It received quite a few awards. It has nice photos in it - I liked looking through it even though I hate hard liquor and only have a nice glass of wine once in awhile.

If you don't care if it's signed by the authors (like the one I purchased for him), the exact one I purchased from Death & Co's website is on Amazon right now for around $16!

My SO has a large vinyl collection - I am including this book below (Booze & Vinyl) as one of his bday gifts (Dec. 5th) - someone recommended it to me. It's on Amazon for about $21. It will look nice displayed on his bar area.

My SO is also difficult to purchase gifts for - and his bday is right by Christmas. He buys whatever he needs - so, I always try to come up with unique ideas. He loves watches - but I've purchased quite a few nice watches for him over the years + a nice watch display case. He dresses in suits every day for work - I've purchased so many nice ties/pocket squares/socks/dress shoes/etc. He also enjoys golf - last year for his bday I purchased a new Garmin golf range watch - it won't need to be replaced for a long time.

I hope people keep adding to this list (even after Christmas - if you find something nice for a bday or Valentine's Day present during the year) - I'm going to check out a few items listed on here in the above comments.

I want to get him something that he will really like - it just takes a lot of effort to keep coming up with ideas!!

I have some other ideas to share - I will take some photos later and post them!

My DH is slightly obsessed with dark chocolate, so I decided his stocking will be chocolate themed. (We are doing only stockings this year, and will probably buy a piece of art as our ”big gift” when we go to Santa Fe right after Christmas.) So far I have:

A walking chocolate tour in Boston.

    A one-hour tour of a chocolate factory.

A class (for 2) making chocolate bars.

Of course I will add some actual chocolate, too.

For a little variety, I found a tour of a local distillery so I might have to throw that in, along with a little bottle of gin.

Oh what a great idea! We're doing a tour of a bourbon distillery but love how your theme and gifts cover so many different activities!

I have given vosges chocolates as gifts for many years - Ive never had it but I love the packaging and some of the unusual flavors. Every year they do a line of music inspired chocolate gifts .. last yr (I think) was the Grateful Dead .. this year it is the Smashing Pumpkins.

Don't worry -- not all the flavors are unusual (though they have some really interesting combos) lol.. there are plenty of regular ol dark chocolate treats too.

I love that at least the truffles come with instructions on how to eat!

Not stocking size .. but in case anyone else is looking. I think this Advent Calendar is absolutely stunning!

Hahaha I need to get the Mo’s Dark Bacon…inside/family joke. I will look at the other flavors too!

Local, in West Chester, is Eclat Chocolate---it has won all sorts of awards. They have a very varied offering so have a look through. ( and if not for this gift, definitely worth a sniff through for anyone who finds themselves in the area.

I will be in the area in April! Might need to stop in!

Oh those look special .. I think I'll pick up a few for gifts. Do you have any favorites, Salonva?

This Leatherology travel organizer is from my nephew's wishlist.. I havent seen it in person but it looks to be good quality.

Also from his list is a pair of Thursday Boot Company boots. I highly recommend their products for both men and women. I have some shoes and boots of my own and have bought him a few different styles of shoes and bels over the years. Sister got him their luggage and it was very nice and good quality.

Sorry I didn't see your question, Funky- believe it or not, I've only gone inside to Eclat like twice. They do change up their offerings ( or tweak them ) seasonally. I know I bought some variety of the dark chocolate mendiants for DD and they were wonderful.

At Longwood, they often sell some chocolate bars ( I recall seeing lavender) and they're excellent.

If you do get some please report back how they are.

We just got back from a week-long trip from Kentucky. We bought a few bottles of hard to find whiskey around my neck of the woods-for the "men-folk" around here.

I bought DH one of those nightstand organizers a few years back and I agree, that’s a great gift. I think I got that one at Belk department store. I posted in the other thread I got him a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses. He’s talked about wanting a pair but he tends to lose or break his more expensive pairs of sunglasses (one pair he accidentally mowed over with the lawnmower), but it’s his birthday and I need to get him something a little more fun. His birthday is next weekend, so it’s hard to find things for both birthday and Christmas.

Belk usually has good Black Friday deals on men’s clothing, so I bought him some Van Heusen wrinkle free dress shirts for work. The wrinkle free are great, and you have to take them out of the dryer as soon it as dings.

Another online place I’ve found him some clothing he likes is Carbon & Cobalt. I need to look through their sales. One thing I’ve found is their stuff runs pretty large, so although he might wear a L or even XL in some things, he needs a M from there. Look at the measurement charts.

Gs, I like Carbon & Cobalt for my DH, too. His favorite store seems to be Bonobos. He is mildly obsessed with their quarter-zip sweaters.

Thanks, Salon .. I am not a chocolate eater but if I do get some and get feedback, I will let you know! Still on the fence if I will buy some.

Just sent more Debragga burgers and short ribs to BIL and sis. They know they are getting them-- they know they will get burgers for every giftable holiday and look forward to them. They like the Dry Aged burgers. The short ribs are a new treat.

Anyone have suggestions on what men can use to hold jewelry when they travel? I have seen a few cases that could be unisex but they are more designed for women's pieces.

Thanks for starting this thread, Funky. DH is getting grass-fed rib eyes and the organizer from posts here. I ordered this plant mover for him since he schleps our big plants in and out twice a year. A friend has one and loves it. I find buying for the men in my life difficult.

Men love TVs…… there have been some streaming packages at great prices for the year. What man wouldn’t want to add another streaming packages to their TVs.😁

Wonderful, Texanjana! If you havent ordered them yet- I strongly suggest talking to Lydia who is their in-house chef/customer service resource. She has given me great guidance on what to buy and there are so many ribeye options. I spoke to her earlier this week and I think it was the hand select that she recommended but I am not 100% sure (I will need to check with her again too as I decided to get some for SO and I)

@Funkyart-I will do that. Thank you!

    Oops, it's Carbon 2 Cobalt not &.

We are an outdoor family and are always putting equipment on the roof of our cars. I just ordered these for my DH and DD1 and 2. We all have SUVs, but I think it would be especially helpful if you had to sweep snow off or otherwise access the roof of a truck. You hook it onto the door latch and use it as a step. I like how compact it is and it also has the the pointy thing that will break a window if you're trapped.

What a great stocking stuffer! I am buying them now!

    What brand do you suggest?

    last modified: 3 days ago

I haven't rec'd mine yet njmomma, so I'm hesitant to recommend. I will say I ordered off amazon and looked at reviews. We are all on the smaller size so I feel fairly confident they will be fine for us, but some reviews said they would recommend going with larger, more expensive ones if it was for a bigger person (weight-wise and shoe size).

For all the preppy men, this company makes very nice clothing at a decent price. Their signature style is a distinct collar design that keeps a crisp shape on polos and other shirts. My DB is a big fan so I orderd a couple of items for my husband.

    Not my DH...yet. Kidding.
