What should I do with my bathroom?

We just recently bought a house and the bathroom needs help. Should I keep anything or does it need to be totally redone

I agree it needs help! But what do you especially dislike (or like) about it?

Agree with what @Kendrah said - a well done bath gut is $$ and not something I’d attempt until i had the cash saved and good pros researched/lined up -

I think paint could go a long way in the space - I’d likely paint the walls, door and grey wall tile the same color and try to create some harmony with the floor - or conversely paint out the floor so it goes with the wall tile - lots of tutorials on youtube, wont last forever for sure but will help while you plan for the redo

It's a gut. Do you want a tub, or a shower? Is it the only bath in the house? A hall bath?

Did you just move in? What is your budget? What does a bathroom you really love, look like? Probably not like this zoo of tile and pattern.

Depending area of the country, and what you do? A full gut could be 25 k or your dream could be a lot more like 60K

    We've no clue.

All above suggestions will put a dab of lipstick on the pig : ) The pig has outlived his rightful life.

As Jan says but we have no clue as to what you need in the space . I do agree this is atoatl gut but not until you have a plan and the budget . That tub would be my first rip out those 50s tubs were useless . Waht is your style what would you like in a bathroom ? Is this the only bathroom? We need info posted here in comments and all things related to this space dealt with here in comments from now on

While you are making plans for a new bathroom, you could paint the dark blue walls to match either the beige tile or the light blue laminate around the sink.

Remove the old blue curtains and replace with fresh white curtains that end at the top of the window sill, not below it. Move the curtain rod if needed. It will look intentional, not make-do.

There’s really nothing to “keep”. As others have stated, it’s a total gut job but unless you have a big suitcase full of $ just sitting around I would follow Kendra’s suggestions & probably add peel & stick floor tiles.

K Laurence suggestion of peel and stick floor tiles is good. Look at unobtrusive light colored patterns such as this one that won't clash with anything in the old bathroom.

Is this a heritage house? How long do you plan to live here? There are two sets of groups on Houzz and the rest of us. One group will always save the tile, one group will almost always say gut the space. I am in process of “freshioning” a likely 1950s tile bathroom in 1920s house. The hall bath with low tub does not bother me, but the white with peach trim tile did not seem to go with the taupe and gray floor tile, especially with walls above the tile painted bright pink. I found a somewhat neutral gray in the floor tile and after painting the walls above the tile, the trim now reads soft peach and not at all offensive. I replaced the heavy Tuscan light over pedestal sink with a fixture that is lighter with mercury glass globes. Still in process of sanding the window trim in the shower and a cabinet nearby. I already ordered a new light shower curtain. For your bath, if decide to keep tile or just survive until schedule contractors or collecting $$, I would consider the following. 1.cannot really tell on my device, it looks like maybe the wall tile matches one of the tiles in mosaic floor. If so, I would consider painting walls that color, including the hard board behind the sink. (But not the shower). 2. Consider new solid shower curtain. I would lean to white. Keep it closed whenever guests come and no one needs to know about the hardboard in shower. 3. I agree with replacing the window curtain, consider white cafe curtain that fits inside window frame. 4. Evaluate whether you can replace the fluorescent light over the sink. A new fixture would allow you to use light bulbs that give more flattering light. 5. The thing that would drive me nuts is the vanity top. It does have the blue sink to match the tub, so you may want to keep it. You are doing great job of keeping it clear of clutter. Replacing the cabinet top will be a challenge due to tile. I’d be tempted to get creative in this area. 6. I do agree with maintenance items, clean/replace grout in tub/shower. Give all the tile a good scrub and see if colors lighten up, evaluate grout, especially floor corners. Check inside vanity for leaks or past water damage in need of repair. Check walks in near rooms and underneath bathroom if possible for any leak or past water damage. If there are issues, then need to fix them fix and see where you with tile after that. Be sure you have GFCI near sink. Good luck and hope you have fun with whatever you decide.

I guess they solved the problem

Unless a total gut job is on the horizon, I would paint all the walls and door white to give the eyes a place to rest from the busyness of the tiles. Add some nice art and call it a day.
