I see no real way to have drapes but roman shades could work those cafe curtains really have to go just bad . The other choice would be some top down bottom up blinds (would not be my first choice )

Agree with Patricia. Folding indoor shutters for the bottom 1/2 of the window in the same stain as the trim wood also work if you do not need entire window covered.

Thanks for those ideas. Why do you think it would not be possible to have drapes? I thought if I put the rod above the molding it would keep them open, but soften the look.

I'm not sure that drapery panels are the best call for this room.

Your rooms definitely need something.

• Better, larger scale wall décor that makes a bigger statement.
• Lamps with linen shades instead of those pharmacy lights because I know the ceiling light doesn't provide good general ambient lighting for the room.
• I'd put chadelier shades on the dining room light.

I might consider actual pleated drapery panels on rings with a rod for the windows to provide a bit more formal solution to the windows.

The traditional ways of covering this type of window where one window is very close to the next are to use either double cafe curtains on tension rods or upper and lower sets of shutters. Usually, lined curtains take up one-third of the window width in stack back space. Unlined curtains may get away with one-quarter of the window width. Grommet curtains take less because there's far less fabric than traditional curtains.

You can look on the brown window trim to see if there are signs of old screw holes for shutters, if you are curious.
