Can I save this room without painting or replacing the sofa?

Right now, our den feels a bit sterile and colorless. We'd like it to feel cozy, warm, and inviting while maintaining a traditional/cottage style. I'm wondering if I can save it without changing the sofa (which is fairly new) or the walls (which are hard to paint!)...but I will certainly change one or both if needed!

I know I need a coffee table that better fits the era. I know I need to replace the rug with a larger one, but I have no idea what to do because of all the texture and patterns between the sofa, the walls, and fireplace. I'm open to hanging a curtain rod higher and changing the curtains, but note that the current rod, which is part of the frame, is original to the house (mid-1800s). I'd love to know if sconces (candle? electric?) would look good over the mantle.

Also, in case it's relevant, our TV is on the wall not pictured.

So grateful for your thoughts and suggestions!
