kitchen countertop advice

last month

We moved into a home a few years ago and while the kitchen is lovely, I really would like to update the Tuscan feel of the countertops and backsplash. I am leaning towards a warm white quartz with brown veining by viatara called cloud ridge and am trying to decide if I should run it up the backsplash or if it would feel too modern in an otherwise traditional home. Any thoughts would be so appreciated!

might be wise to show a closeup of the countertop that's currently there. My hunch is all that is needed is replace the backsplash. that would be a wonderful savings for you. From what I can see the counter unites the floor and cabinets , and I wouldnt be quick to rip that out.

That’s a really good point. Here’s the closeup of the granite. It may be hard to tell but it has reds in it that I just don’t like and overall has a heavy, darker feel than what I was hoping for. I do love the dark wood cabinets but I’d like to brighten the space.

heavy darker feel does not come through in the view you provided.... Lighter spaces are created usually with lighting improvements..... You could add that value w upgrading the pendants ..assessing what is over the sink..the lightbulbs everywhere etc. I like the granite..but certainly a total counter change can help w your desire. But new backsplash tiles can do a share of that also. Bring in samples of various things but I would work on lighting as well. The corner may be a bit dark...whatever you do the little garage might be best removed if you can....[it doesnt look integrated w the upper . ]....the product you show doesnt inspire me all that much..I'd say its just okay.....other samples might be helpful.

You definitely want to make sure that the white quartz your are looking at has a warm undertone.

Have you brought a sample home?

Did you bring one of your door fronts to the slab yard?

Did you ask for them to take the slab outside to see it in natural light? Slab warehouses have the worst lighting.

I would not run the same quartz up your backsplash in your traditional kitchen. Use a complementary tile.

Thank you! Yes, the cloud ridge quartz is a warm off white with brown veining and we brought our cabinet door to see the slab in natural light. We also had a sample at home but it’s difficult to get the full effect with such a small piece. I appreciate the comment on the backsplash and am leaning towards the same. Iddea

Another option for the counters is Taj Mahal quartzite, if you can find the lighter off-white & light beige swirly slabs and not the more taupe stripped slabs.

Based on the photo, to my eyes, the range hood looks/feels heavy but it may be, there's no lighting reflecting off the panels, as they are on other cabinet doors.

Most counters look better with minimal things on counters, especially in photos.

But that's not everyday life for most people....
