How to design this “uneven” tv area?

last month

We just finished our basement and will be installing a TV centered with the pole and couch. Unfortunately the TV can’t be centered with the window and door because the couch would be sticking out past the stairs (hopefully you can see what I mean in the photos).

Does this look bad/off? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the room perhaps look more even since there is a lot of space to the left?

Appreicate it! :)

There is no reason at all why the TV should be centered between that window and door! There is nothing symmetrical about the whole room, so not sure why you think you have to create symmetry.

Place it wherever it will work best for viewing.

Agree with Chispa but that also means your sectional doesnt need to go where you have placed it either. There is no reason is should be right there

Because tvs are now 4K the minimum viewing distance from an 85" is 5-6 feet. Looking at the last picture, it appears there may be room for the chaise couch on the wall where the individuals are standing. Facing the wall opposite. The rest of the space can be for foosball.

What all is going to go on in this space? Why are you 100% on the sectional sitting there? The last pic makes me wonder if that isn't way too close to a TV hung on that wall. How about a measured drawing of the room and a list of furniture to go in it? It's good you haven't hung the TV yet. A great time to get this arrangement the best it can be.

What you show is making that post a highlight so no to that . A to scale floor plan is helpful so post that here in a comment in jpeg format

It does look odd to have the sectional backed up against the column.

Must be a better arrangement than THAT?!

    DRAW and measure the space.

That means every solid wall, the stair, the doors and where they lead or if closet/storage etc.

It also means a totally accurate detail of the post location, and how far from any and all walls. Feet and inches, bold and legible. Use 1/4 inch to a foot, graph paper, BOLD pencil, and upload as a jpeg.....free of shadow from your phone camera.

Best way? Put it on your scanner and upload as a JPEG.

I think the first decision is the seating’s placement and no matter what, box in the pillars.

Without knowing dimensions, providing a design re creating a cohesive seating area (tv can always be placed on an arm if needed). If the sectional is going between the pillars, add a console.

How you address the rest of the space is based on your requirements/wish list. Once room’s dimensions are provided, as well as your needs, you’ll receive all kinds of helpful advice.

There's no reason why the sectional cannot be slid to the left in spite of the position of the stairs.

Ok well you guys arent here in person and can’t see how awkward it looks to have the couch protruding out right when you walk out from the staircase… so so we did it! We will be hanging a vertical photo to the left of TV. Any other suggestions now that it’s done?

I would want some lamps in the room for cozier lighting
