Laundry room dryer vent and paint color

last month

Hi, I’m painting my laundry room and looking for ideas for disguising the dryer vent. Would painting the walls gray help it blend in? Trying to decide on white or gray paint color. I was thinking all white ceiling and walls because of the boxed in part of the ceiling being a different height? Any other tips appreciated. Thanks!

I would paint it the same color as the rest of the walls. Then the vent will not be on an accent wall, calling attention to itself.

Edited to add/clarify: Paint the wall, not the vent.

Thanks kempek01. Do you mean paint actual vent? I didn't know you could paint these.

Thank you cat_ky. Is it ok to paint the hose?

@abascot I think what others are suggesting is to paint the wall the vent hose is on the same light color as the other wall in picture is. They’re not suggesting you paint the actual vent hose. As is now, the back wall is a dark accent color & the silver ventn hose really pops against the wall. You asked about white or gray paint color for the back wall. I’d go for whiteish with a gray cast. Too white & you’d have the same issue - the silver vent & gray fuse box colors popping against a darker gray. So, maybe a very pale gray tone - that would do well with floors & black W/D too.

Since your electrical panel is not to code for the U.S. (requires 36" clear in front and 30" clear side-to-side), I would consider a completely different appliance layout. At that time, you can box in the permanent vent.

You can paint the hose if you use a paint designed for high temperatures and use on metal. Most of the high temp paints just come in black or white, but there are some companies that offer additional colors like Stove Bright. I am sure BM or SW will have some type of paint that will work - just need to ask if they have something that would work to paint a radiator.

I just took another expanded look at the ”vent hose”. I thought that whole long thing against the wall was a dryer hose & couldn’t imagine why paint something that should be replaced every so often. I see that most of it - except for elbows - is actually a metal pipe. Painting it makes more sense to me now.
