Help help!!!! I have a backyard without any landscaping and am havin

I moved into a home with a totally natural yard a couple of years ago, so it has only had trees and bushes, etc. All trees were removed. It slopes up towards the back, is ungraded, and does have some drainage problems due to its position, which I plan to address when it is graded. A deck will be replacing the patio and extend out to the yard after it is graded. Any ideas from there will be most appreciated!

Wow! You have done so much to try and turn forest into back yard. The perimeter forest you have left is so peaceful and lovely. I too am ever working at my cottage forest/gardens. Yours will be a work in progress and so think about setting your sights on one project area at a time. Your patio is looking great with the flowering border beside. Here are a few ideas I can see from your pictures.

Pathway to shed garden:

Think about developing this area as it is in full view of your patio and back of house. You can outline a border for a garden shape with spray paint and possibly think about a flagstone or old brick pathway to the shed.

Woodland sitting area or hammock:

Somewhere along your forest perimeter, there would be a nice shady little nook that you could plan in time for a small sitting area that allows you to sit and enjoy the perspective of the yard and back of the house.

Edging a section of your perimeter and planting perennial shrubs such as Annabelle Hydrangea, Hostas, Lilly of the Valley, Day Lilly, Ferns, Ivy, check at your garden center. I have slowly added small to medium sized rocks to edge the borders and I use mulched leaves, wood chips for mulch.

what is the shape,design of your deck?? Any seating built in, or flower boxes? What is the size and where will it fit onto the house. One small idea would be to create gardens at the edge of your tree line. in addition to gardens near your deck.

Ty iwasbabs. The deck has not been built yet, but I had visualized one which was rounded or curved rather than straight, without rails. Built in seating and flower boxes are great suggestions.
