Bi-Level living room help!

last month

Looking for living room layout help for this small living room.
This is a bi-level / raised ranch living room with stairs and a banister, so furniture placement is tricky. I’m open to rearranging, removing pieces, or buying new furniture if it makes the space flow better. Currently have a sofa, loveseat, and coffee table, but not attached to keeping everything. Would love suggestions for better layouts, L-shaped
sectional ideas, or furniture that works well in this type of room. Open to no-TV or minimal-TV setups too.

Can you add a shot from the bay looking back?

For the size space you have, I think your arrangement works. If you want new furniture, maybe go with something sleeker.
Also, sleeker chairs would allow you to add a chair on the left side of the fireplace. If this is your main living/ TV watching room then I think your TV is fine. If you have another room that’s a “TV” room, you could consider moving the TV, but if you like cooking and watching TV then leave the TV where it is.

The furniture just too big for the space . If the TV can go somehwere else IMO that would allow this space to used for nice entertainig without tv at all. Then the whole spaces does not need to be aimed at the TV. You have alot of stuff on the walls which often makes a space feel busy too. A smaller scaled sofa would allow you to have 2 chairs too. Just less bulky everything That sofa needs lighting for sure . Word art always IMO a bit off. If you love family photos and the TV then get a smart TV and all those photos can be on there no need to get a Frame TV but ideally no TV in thta space . If I am helping a client with new build I always want the TV in the FP and FP in the LR . Fewr things on the walls but larger pieces like art . Mirrors should reflect things you want to see twice and they do little to improve natural light . Eye clutter always makes spaces feel smaller If you go with a fell like JM shows that would be awesome in thta space and IMO you could do 2 chairs

Before buying anything maybe just try the chair on the other side of the sofa. Then if that doesn’t work consider smaller furniture. It’s a nice space.

    Please - no sectional!

It is set up perfectly. Open to the kitchen and entry. Good view of the TV. But, as suggested, if the new furniture is less bulky, it will work better.

if you want to keep the furniture for now - it could be interesting to remove a lot of the smaller decor pieces and see if that helps a bit of the overcrowded feeling

I would consider a sofa with a sofa table to divide the living room from the dining room.

when looking for furniture, look for MCM style, exposed legs and a slimmer profile seating with a tighter upholstery. low back swivel chairs, less bulk in general.

Raise the curtain rod all the way to the ceiling and extend to the corners, no need for mirrors. If you need another sofa, look for a MCM chaise (one arm sofa) for the railing wall.

and hang your wall decor on the railing side wall, rather than too much on the TV wall for a sleeker look.

floor lamps are better than table lamps for a small space.

Mount the TV on the wall and keep the fireplace cabinet clear, decorating for holiday to make it special.

EDIT. when everything is 'special' nothing is special.

Working with the furniture you have I've remove all the small items you have across the room and replaced with larger ones. You can replace the TV with a framed Art TV for above the fireplace. By removing all the small items it makes the room feel larger. I'm also showing a natural fibre geometric pattern rug, a natural fibre roman shade and new accessories.

I used to do everything on PowerPoint. Now I start by asking AI to delete any items I don't want in the original photo. Then I still research for the items I need on internet and place them on the updated photo where I want them and AI does the finishing work for me.
