How to design airy, soft master with this headboard?

I want a light, serene bedroom, about to make it over, preferably on a dime. Attached is a picture of the upholstered bed we ordered, which was a compromise with my husband. I would’ve preferred something a little softer and lighter looking. First photo is the bed we will have, next photos are the look I’m striving for. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I o not see the bed being an issue with what you want Nice bedding in color you like the bed is pretty neutral for sure . Soft colors in bedding , maybe one of those colors for the walls , I like drapes in bedrooms for a softer feel . That top pic would be my last choice since I like a headboard always . You pics are not in the order you say BTW

Thank you so much for this! I realized I got the pictures wrong and wasn’t sure how to fix it. We have old, dark, red cherry wood furniture (dresser, tv stand) next that I think I’m going to repaint (or restain) until we can replace it. What do you think of that and colors for that?

Yes, that’s what I’m hoping to do! I can’t wait to make it look beautiful and those are all good ideas. Thank you.

yes, paint the furniture for a different look.

I would start by removing the drawers and only painting the frame work, leave the drawers wood tone and the tops, change out the hardware.

If you don't like it, paint it all. Ditch the word art. you don't need any art over a headboard if you want serene. Keep the colors calm and consistent not a lot of contrast. Spend your money on bedding.

Quince is a good source for less expensive bedding, but don't skimp on the sheets.

This is wonderful, thank you. Yes Quince, I’ve only gotten clothing from them, but I will check out their bedding. I agree with word, art, yuck! I just liked those pictures for the overall look, not all of the specifics. I really appreciate your advice.

Off topic, but Quince is terrific for just about everything. Bedding and draperies can't be beat. My friend just bought a sofa and she is thrilled.

Agree to paint the dark furniture - I had two large old dark but good quality dressers, painted one BM hale navy and put it in my son’s room and the other I painted white and have in my room - the pieces feel totally different painted

The look of cherry bedroom furniture in a light & airy decor...

Thank you. I am looking for a change. Wondering if painting them in a blue or green or staining lighter would work

Paint and color choices can't be made in a vacuum. Color has a lot to do with the size and layout of the space. How crowded or spacious is the room? How much contrast do you want between the hard wood furniture and the textiles and wall color? Is the wood furniture hefty, detailed, bulky, narrow lines? Are they near windows and how much light is in the room? What is your flooring? How tall are the ceilings?

Show us pics of your room and the furniture.

There is another great thread on Houzz right now where the poster posed a question about painting bedroom furniture and within just two weeks she has decided to not paint, change the room layout, get new hardware, has painted a new wall color, and purchased a bed like your new bed. The whole thing is taking shape really nicely, but all of the piece of the puzzle are inter related. https://www.houzz.com/discussions/6519554/would-you-recommend-painting-this-furniture#n=184

I will post some pictures of my bedroom soon, just have to get all the laundry and Christmas clutter out of the way.

I promise I’m still going to post photos of my bedroom to determine dresser colors, bedding, etc!!!. It’s been chaotic, a lot of clutter in my room and today I have my bed and area rug being put down. Does anyone mind giving me a quick advice on the 8 x 10 rug I’m putting under my king bed? Our room is awkward with master bathroom door swing and it’s not small but it’s not huge either. Anyway, it’s an 8 x 10 rug and I’m gonna put it horizontally under the bed, in front of the nightstands- not under them. I’ll have 18 inches on either side of the bed in terms of area rug showing. Does it matter how much area rug is showing at the foot of the bed, and is there a minimum and maximum that the rug should be placed in front of/not under the nightstands? Thanks so much.

My bed and rug are in, and I painted over the ugly accent wall that was behind my bed. I love the bed in the rug, but it’s all very neutral so I need to figure out what’s next. I’m attaching pictures of my bedroom from different vantage points, and an inspiration board I made on Pinterest shuffle. I think I would like to paint the dressers, a cool olive or deep/muted blue color, and add more color through bedding and art. I’m open to advice.

Here’s the view while sitting in bed. And that is my inspiration Board.

is that ceiling fan staying as is?? maybe get a more streamlined fan w/no light attachment.

I like the olive green idea.

this color green and dresser type.

    crate and barrel

I like the warm neutrals w/ this color

or look at natural wood nightstands like these

    or like these

more neutral boho notice the light

if you like blue, try Hale Navy, maybe something like this (with a nicer fan)

I am keeping budget super minimal- could I change the fan blades and the light cover to make it better? Also the tray ceiling- I want to pay someone to paint it white or same color as walls.

Hale navy and this green are very nice. I have dressers I will paint- may replace later when budget allows.

can you paint the tray yourself? I know it's a pain, but if you're on a budget? and I would keep it a contrasting color. white is blah. I like how you have the tray darker than the surrounding walls.

as for the fan, you could try selling yours, and then check out Lampsplusopenbox for deals. I've ordered a few things from them at a discount. (and if you paint the tray yourself, you'll save about $400 the painter would charge you.

I've painted at least 100 dressers. make sure to properly prep, prime (fine sand after priming) and use a paint meant for wood trim, not drywall! I like BM Advance,

or even a chalkpaint from General Finishes. I did my own dresser in the blackpepper.

they also have their "milkPaint" paints in a satin finish . they're equally good. (but always prep and prime)

jennifer, sorry, I edited w/some paint suggestions. not sure if you caught those. let me know if you have any questions regarding them

Oh, I just saw the paint colors thank you! I will take a look at them and let you know if I have questions. I painted to cover a few accent walls lately, and being on the ladder is not agreeing with me. I thought I was in good shape for my age (57) but maybe not when it comes to painting up really high lol. I don’t love the dark tray ceiling or the fan, but will address those once I do night stands, bedding and paint the dressers. I have no design sense (or confidence/experience?) but I am excited about the possibilities here. I’ve neglected my master bedroom for so many years, and I’m finally trying to pull it together so it feels like a pretty and relaxing sanctuary.
