How would you lay out seating in this space?

last month

We are having trouble figuring out seating in our ADU. It will sleep 8-10 so it would be great to seat 8-10 here if we could. Do I need to think like it’s a hotel lobby? The fireplace wall is 16.5 feet wide, then about 11 feet deep is what we have to work with. the rug is a 10x14.

Other things to know are that the fireplace is not finished but will be very minimal in bulk, and the window sills are 2 feet from the ground

Will there be a tv in the space? I would do like Judy’s picture. Two full sized sofas and two chairs would seat 6-8 and then you could have a couple of poofs or something by fireplace of even more is needed. I don’t mind the dining table. Is one side a bench?

Thanks for your input and photo, Judy! i do like 2 couches facing each other and swivel chairs are so fun

The couch could go on one of the walls or the back of the couch to the dining room you could put chairs on both sides of the fireplace or two chairs The Backs to the dining room or two chairs angled by the fireplace with the couch on one of the sides and the TV on one of the walls you need to decide that before proceeding

I would try something like these... two sofas facing each other. two swivel chairs in front of the fireplace. another sofa and sofa table separating the dining area. the sofa table behind the sofa could be something enclosed for storage, or open for cubes for extra seating.

My husband is saying that the pictures I took don’t represent the dimensions very well. this room is wider than it is deep, which makes these great ideas not work in reality. let me try some more pictures. Does this give a better sense of the depth? my daughter is sitting in the chair in purple, so that gives a sense of the limit

    on that side.

And here is a view of all making new years resolutions, and how the table wont be moving for the living room layout.

Measure the space you have. Tape out in the floor how it would fit with two sofas or a sectional ajd chairs or whatever.

Something like this (2 3-seat sofas, 1 chair, 2 smaller square ottomans/poufs/beanbags (for kids), 2 larger round ottomans that could be either seating or coffee tables (with trays) as needed? A couple of dining chairs could also be turned around for extra living room seating.

Make a DRAWING! The entire space. Every solid wall has a dimension, the windows have a width dimension. the fireplace has a dimension., hallway passages have a dimension......and you INCLUDE all the way to the kitchen island.

    You can use graph paper.

You want reality of what fits? That is how you get it: ) Upload a s a jpeg, neat bold, legible.
