Questions about Cl. Eden

I just bought this rose from Lowe's. today. They have just put out their roses in gray pots. I picked out several! Have never grown Eden so thought I would try it. It is a healthy specimen, and the photos look beautiful online. Would appreciate any information about this rose - is it a good recurrent bloomer? Does it prefer to grow vertically or horizontally? Any other information or suggestions appreciated! I live in Texas, 2 hours NE from Houston.

I'm in a really different zone from you, but I grew mine as a sort of free-standing shrub. I originally planted it along a 6 foot wooden fence, with the intent of it being a normal climber, but as it grew, it seemed to want to just go its own way. It never needed any support or lashing to the fence, so I just let it go with its perfect arching canes. Mine bloomed extremely well, maybe four flushes. I speak of it in the past, because after 25 years and various tree work and letting the rootstock gradually grow along with it, I dug it out last year. I've had a new one for 3 years... still not sure where it will go eventually. I have no pics of it in its glory in my current files, but I'm sure I have pics of it in my old files which are mainly unlabeled!

Beautiful rose! It gets really hot in summer and early fall here, so it should like this climate. I have several places I can put it - just want to make sure I find it a spot it will be happy. The rose has big fat canes already - not like some of the spindly ones that are sold in big box stores. We are due sleet this weekend so my new roses are going in the greenhouse........

'Eden' is the most adaptable, obliging rose! I have eight, and they are all in part sun. So I can say that 'Eden' does well in part sun and cool summer temps. I get two distinct flushes a year here, but that's because of our cool summers. With more heat, I am sure you will get more flowers just like Susan and Diane's friend. I have found it to be a very healthy rose, which keeps its leaves all season...even if they may get a few blackspots early or late in the season when we have damp weather.

These two 'Eden' on this lattice house only get about 4-5 hours of direct sun a day!

Here is and 'Eden' climbing on a tree. It is also in part sun. I love how pretty the foliage is on this rose. The whole effect is so pretty!

It's such an easy rose to train...the canes are very flexible, but not floppy. It doesn't have very many thorns. And the flowers grow close to the main canes, so it looks very tidy when it blooms...like a waterfall of blooms. I'm sure you will love yours!

I think Eden has the most incredible spring flush, is easy to grow , and very vigorous. In Texas, it does not repeat well, just a very few scattered blooms in summer and fall. I have many , many friends in Texas who also grow Eden with the same result. In California (Sacramento) , Eden does repeat quite decently, the spring flush still the best, but at least 3 more decent bloom cycles, a wonderful surprise to me. Both places are equially hot, I suspect California’s advantage is the very cool nights that allow for quality new bud formation. But even in Texas, I thought Eden was well worth growing.

“Well worth growing” seems a bit of an understatement when I look at that photo, Ben. What lavish blooms! And the composition is wonderful.

If I get a flush like that - it will be worth it! I have plenty of room - will place it where it can get some afternoon protection from our blazing summer sun. For a nice healthy plant for $17 - definitely worth having! Thanks for all the gorgeous photos - Cant wait to get it in the ground to start growing! Ben, always love your posts and wonderful photos! Do you miss our Texas summers lol???!!
