Water bottle opening preferences?

I am trying to up my water intake and thought a new drink container might help. I currently have a 32 oz Yeti that I use with a straw or just the slide top. As I have aged, the large grip has become uncomfortable for my hands.

Do you like a straw, slide to drink like a cup or a flip up spout of some type? Thoughts on keeping them clean?

Any brand preference with a slimmer profile would be a bonus!

Mine has a flip up spout attached to a straw that goes down to the bottom and I like that. I just use it when I play golf but haven't noticed it being too wide and I know what you mean about that. Works well for me and it was just a cheap buy at Aldi. I rinse and dry it as it just has water in it. I wash the top with dish soap.

I have a Yeti with a straw....problem...when driving home...higher altitude...the straw sucks up water and sprews it OUT! I have TAL with a straw, it's fine. Two days ago I knocked it over, didn't notice and half the tea drained out! I just purchased a plastic Thermos brand, no straw. I hold it upside down to mix the drink packet...it leaks...not too bad....had it a week...still looking for the NO leak...NO straw bottle that's perfect. I DON'T recommend ANY I've tried.

nicole, that is so funny about the altitude! I remember such things happening when I visited your neck of the woods last fall. I opened a packet of something and it squirted at me. And I remember a family vacation, we were kids, driving up to Mt Palomar I think it was in California, and we watched as a bag of chips started blowing up like a balloon and exploded potato chips all over the back seat of the rental car.

    I don’t particularly care for a straw.

My current favorite water bottle has a flip top lid, it locks, too. But I have to be careful how I drink lest my nose hit the flipped-up top and get the tip of my nose wet.

Slide-backs don’t seal, IME, so i can’t toss it in my tote bag. I have a new Yeti tumbler with a slide-back, and it pops off for cleaning which is nice. I haven’t tried the tumbler yet, actually; it is too big for my hands. I just got a handle for it so I will try that out. It isn’t something I will carry easily in my tote bag, though though.

A flip-up spout, I have had that and it’s okay.

The biggest thing for me is, how easy is the bottle to hold, especially with mittens on, and to carry?

My favorite for in the house was a freebie from the kids’ college visits. Clear, pop-up cover for the spout, a ring for a carabiner or finger (the ring broke off when I dropped it). It was clear so I actually saw the water which reminded me to drink it. Unfortunately I left it somewhere and never saw it again. (Same thing happened with my all-time favorite coffee bottle.)

I use BruMates. My son locked onto them because they are truly leakproof and he doesn't have to worry about papers, laptop etc when carrying to and from work. We had some small drink glasses the kids gave us for using around the pool or hot tub, but they became used for ice cream more than anything - ice cream doesn't melt immediately in Texas summers and your hands don't get cold.

I decided to try one for taking water when I volunteer at the school and now use it everywhere. I have a large handled one (Era) for water and the Nav (no handle) for coffee or tea. Both come in two sizes. They also have the Resa that has a top handle instead of one on the side as well as a number of other styles -- all are leakproof. All of them are slim enough to fit into cupholders in the car - the larger ones tapering along the sides. I don't know if that would work for you but I really like mine. I even use them at home now because they don't get condensation if you use ice, and I use plenty of ice in summer.

It's all psychological, I know, but drinking a quart of water seems daunting...unless I put it in a mason jar which seems much smaller and quite doable. Go figure. I pour it out of the mason jar into a glass for drinking.

I love my BruMates. Linked below. I prefer a straw. The top/straw comes completely apart and I put it all in the dishwasher. I've had them for years and never had any problems with mold or getting gross. Comes in 3 sizes. I have the 30 and 40 oz. The 40 oz is BIG.

Here is one i just bought in the Stanley website and I really love it. It’s 24 oz, lightweight. I don’t know if you can tell, but the opening is slightly slanted to make it easier to drink from the bottle. the handle also serves as a place to clip the lid and it really seems secure. I guess it could be knocked off and I’d definitely be a little careful with it but still handy.

I had another one from Amazin that was larger and I think the brand was Tanaka or Taneka? it was great too but very large in circumference, and I have long fingers. I may have put in a donation box recently that is still awaiting my next trip there.

I really don’t mind straws, especially while driving. I assume you Stanley users know that the crosspiece on the lid on those large mugs twist and close off the straw, making them a little bit more leak-proof but still not completely.

I recently left my TAL one at the car dealership which is like 30 miles from my house, so I bought this one: Ello Pop & Fill I liked it at first because you have two ways to drink from it & it is easier to fill up w/o having to remove the whole top. However, I dropped it pretty hard on cement & now it leaks no matter what I do to the seal underneath the lid. Debating on whether I want to buy a replacement seal or find another TAL like I had w/ the flip up spout.

EDIT: I have an Owala Free Sip that I like (bought at Sam's before they became the latest fad bottle so way cheaper at the time) but is too big to fit in my cupholder. I see A has this one Owala Free Sip, need to measure & see if the 24 oz one will fit in my cupholder.

    I don't own a water bottle.

I'm not into the whole water thing and I don't see the need to carry around a big water thingy, unless you are running in the heat, say, When I am thirsty, I drink water, and I always have -- we were raised that way. It is my beverage of choice. But I don't believe in chugging water for its own sake. Eat when you are hungry, drink when you are thirsty.

I have one of these 24oz owala. LINK

We have also tried many styles in our house. As a coach, I've received several as gifts of all shapes and sizes. This is the first one I've really enjoyed.

It as a straw and a sipper if you don't like the straw. I like the push button to open, the handle makes it easy to carry or grab from my purse. As long as the lid is screwed on it hasn't leaked and I throw it around in my purse, ball bag, car, even dropped on the ground a few times.

The mouth is wide enough for ice machines.

I like the fun colors and even changed out the lid at the store to make my own color combo haha

Edited to add that it does fit in my cupholders as well.

Eat when you are hungry, drink when you are thirsty.

I agree with this 100%. The whole craze of you must drink a certain amount ( a ridiculous amount IMO) every day is such nonsense.

Having said that though, I am often thirsty and I hate being thirsty. Like you, water is my drink of choice. So I will take a water bottle with me in the car if I'm going to be out more than a quick trip. With lots of ice it stays cold in my car even in the summer.

Also, I work out at home on a treadmill and/or with the Tonal weight machine and use my water bottles then too. I drink often while working out.

Funnily, my DD texted me recently and said something like - we didn't have Stanleys when I was a kid, right? I said nope. She said it's so weird; I survived yet my kids panic if they leave the house without their Stanley.

I remember reading somewhere that Americans are unnaturally fixated on always having snacks and water. I think it is true.

Straw and handle. I hate those fat water bottles. How much water really isn't the issue at hand. One sip, one serving I prefer a straw and a handle that doesn't give my hand cramps.

I received a Fellow Carter Move mug for swag at my office party last year. Truly leak proof and very easy to clean. It's meant for coffee, but I use it for water because I only like drinking coffee from ceramic mugs.

I've been shopping for a new water bottle for a while. I have two smaller stainless ones with screw on caps that I like, but I want a larger capacity. My goal is to find a fully plastic free option and I found this site...I probably will send for one of these. I am trying to up my water intake since starting on Zepbound because the medication affects digestion and water keeps things moving. Also, a higher protein diet is recommended and that can be hard on your kidneys if you don't drink enough water.

    Plastic-free water bottles
