Is black matte hardware trendy?

last month

I want to update my house but don’t want to choose something that will quickly go out of style.

Yes, but everything goes out of style eventually, faster than ever nowadays.

Depends on where you use it and what your decor style is.

Unless you are planning to sell this year, trendiness is not only vastly overrated, it is just plain unimportant. It's your house. Choose what will make you happy every time you wake up or come home.

I have never had black matte hardware, and unless my overall décor style was something like Spanish Colonial or something else that usually features wrought iron, I doubt I'd choose any sort of black hardware. I've learned in these forums that black often shows every speck of dust, and requires a lot of cleaning to keep it looking fresh. That said, if black matte hardware is your dream look, who cares what I think? Go for it, enjoy it, and the heck with trends.

My two cents; your mileage may vary.

It is a cottage style house on a lake. I’m thinking of of “wave” shape lever handles . I’m planning to stay here and being older levers are easier than knobs.

Your question just jogged my memory. My mother, back in the 60’s

, when I was just a young kid, had all her kitchen cabinets painted white with black hardware. Everything comes back again, in some iteration.

This look is similar to what I have in mind.

Ah, yes, that is another style that does rather call for black. I think it suits a cottage look very well.

Thank you! The kitchen has stainless appliances and brushed nickel knobs and pulls and light fixtures. The bathrooms are shiny chrome. I think the flat black will work and be a consistent detail tying it all together.

The door hardware I used from Emtek, Sandcast Bronze, is a dark brown, so not as harsh as black. My house is Spanish-inspired with 3-panel doors. Make sure the hinges match.

This one is a living finish, so the most used doors will get some patina with the bronze showing through on the backside and edges of the levers.

I love black matte hardware. I have it in my Colonial Revival kitchen with white cabinets, and also in my vacation home with white/ivory cabinets. It goes with lots of styles, and if you like it, do it and don't worry about trends. Both my kitchens were done over 12 years ago, and still look great.

It doesn't matter if it is trendy, 'in', outdated..it's your home. Choose what you love, what will look best with what you already have, what you can afford.
