Where would you put the kitchen?

I keep battling between putting the kitchen back into the “ dining room” or not. In the winter I feel cut off from my family in the living room- but th summer with the kids outside that big window all day it’s fine. We also have a patio that we are thinking of trying to access by installing a sliding door where the fridge is currently living. What would you all do? I included a pic of the “ breakfast nook “ before we moved in too.

You will need to post a toscale floor plan with every window, doorawy where those lead and every measurement all clearly marked and posted here in jpeg format so we can actually read it . Post in a comment DO NOT start another post . I ssume you are redoing the whole kitchen and did you just move in or lived there for awhile ?

We moved our kitchen - it’s a pretty big undertaking time and money-wise but def doable - for us, it improved the flow of the entire first floor so it was worth it — do you have a basement? helps for access to water etc..

Kids only play the backyard for so long- if it were me, I’d be thinking about how to configure the interior rooms for connectness and then determining what space makes for the best kitchen layout (the pros on here can help with that) look like you might need more storage? Is that yellow cord for your range?

Another option, which still leaves the kitchen isolated from the living room but preserves bedroom/bathroom privacy and avoids removing what looks like a bearing wall (the long horizontal one). This removes the foyer/closet, moves the kitchen door to the existing window location, and closes the existing door opening to allow adequate counter/cabinet space. (You could keep the foyer/closet if you can live with a smaller dining area in the space behind the foyer wall.)

This is an absolute ocean of juice for not nearly enough squeeze. A gigantic living room, completely cut off from a kitchen, will never be adequate dining without major alteration,, a bedroom, stair and hall bath and stair in a prohibitive locale. A house with kids and a dire lack of storage.

We have no clue the exterior, the garage, lot lines, neighborhood, location in the USA, costs of labor and many more questions........

Unfortunate truth? The BEDROOM is the most logical placement for a kitchen. That's the bummer.

Are you actually wanting to move the kitchen from its present location? What is your budget? Moving a kitchen with associated plumbing supply and waste lines is no small project.

To answer the questions I can before I can get a sketch with proper dimensions.
I don’t know why it’s so hard to comment in this app! So I’ll do my best. Tthe wall is load bearing ( the one that divides the now current kitchen from breakfast nook)- but we’ve told by contractors we

Get rough cost estimates on what you want to do from a couple general contractors. Spending money on something that is already there is many times better than on what is not there.

If moving the kitchen to the dining room is up for serious consideration, you might consider if a banquet seating space in the now kitchen area would work for you. It might open the area to being more social bringing others into the area.

Just my opinion but Houzz is way easier to use in a browser (the app isnt great)

The dining room is in an out-of-the way location. I would consider making that the bedroom and moving the kitchen to where the bedroom is. Then the living/dining area is the big open area in the front of the house. Another bonus is that the bedroom would be closer to the bathroom.
