Measure the room. Width plus length equals the diameter of the light fixture.

Example: 12 feet + 14 feet = 26 inch diameter

Is that a radiator and cover in front of the windows? or a piece of furniture? A few more photos would be nice, where is the TV is this a kitchen table open concept?

What direction is the natural light from? South, West? How about a close up of the rug?

The photos are a bit too high, the side tables pretty small...

Matting and framing images in a larger format to create a bigger impact would make the wall much more interesting.

The windows face West, but also get some natural light from the opposite room (facing East) in the morning.

I'm adding a photo from the other direction (into the kitchen) - didn't originally because we are still shopping for a TV that is better proportions and a console table for underneath instead of my kids craft table. With our budget we are just tackling a few things at a time.

For your comment re: side tables, do you mean small as in too low?

Do you NEED a console under the TV? Is the cabinet in the corner ON an angle or is it a corner cabinet? Is there another matching hutch type piece in the room?

you have a pretty tight space there with furniture to hold dishes, etc, If it were mine, I'd face the sofa/sectional toward the windows with the chaise piece running along the wall, and mount the TV where you have your gallery frames. Then you can see the TV from the kitchen.

Mount the frames where the TV is now. I'd try swapping the cabinet pieces, the straight barware piece on the kitchen/gallery wall and the corner unit in the other corner.

you have plenty of light to go a bit darker, a darker Taupe/greige/tan from the rug?

floor lamps rather than table lamps, and a large ottoman/coffee table with a solid top rather than side tables. I'd look for a linen drum shade, semi flushmount for the ceiling light.

I think there's space for a floor lamp on the right side of the sofa. They don't take up much space and perhaps if needed the sofa can be pulled forward slightly along with the end tables.

Maybe address the ceiling light first and then a floor lamp to go with.

Thank you! I appreciate the idea for swapping things around. We have some (or rather, a lot) eccentricities in our 1300 sq foot home that is 110+ years old (and no closets downstairs) so we do need to have furniture double with storage wherever we can. It's more cramped than we'd like but not likely to change anytime soon! The corner cabinet can't swap with the other bar cabinet, unfortunately - the wall is not deep enough and the corner cabinet comes out further than the trim.

Our TV is our only one in the house, and couch similarly only real sitting area outside of our dining table (not pictured), so I don't think it will work for the way we use the space to have the the couch not facing the TV. Seeing it from the kitchen isn't really a priority for us now - when we are watching, we are sitting!

Do you think a floor lamp would make more sense than wall sconces or picture lights? Appreciate the idea on pulling from the tan tones in the rug for the paint.

Note to anyone reading this Design Dilemma. Provide photos of all four sides of a space right away and a hand drawing with measurements of all four sides.

Forget about sconces for now since layout precedes decor .Recommending that you float your sofa to face what is now a gallery wall and instead make that a TV wall with a wide storage unit, shelving, or very wide console below. You won't need to buy a new TV and can put that money into a unit or console that can also store your child's toys. If you do that, turn your rug the other way.

If you float the sofa, then you can add an armchair in one of the far corners to face the sofa and have a conversational grouping. Place a floor lamp behind it to light up that end of the room. You don't need any more small things like sconces or gallery walls of small art/photo works or you can add them behind the TV on far wall. Rethink the layout of the space.

Paint color:: Pull a lighter version of the golden ivory from your rug. A warm ivory will harmonize better with the flooring and your rug.

We have a floor lamp with multiple arms/shades that are aimable. One to the ceiling for ambient light, the others at the walls and one down for reading.

I would stack your four wide photos one over the other vertically. The top one would stay the same height. Then the four smaller ones stacked on each side...I think it would give more presence.

We don't watch TV from the kitchen but it is nice to see it while preparing food.

I don't think your walls are gray. They appear to be a neutral color which looks great with your furnishings. I personally don't like the red rug. There are much better options for the room out there to select from.

Additionally the quality of the ceiling light is absymal. That has to be changed.

The small photos would look better mounted on a picture ledge in a hallway or den. That way you can still expand the collection and the overall composition is much more interesting.

Things on the wall are all hung too high.

Note I have lowered the collection at the kitchen and lowered the height of the Tv.

A rug with blue would help unify the room and brighten the appearance.
