Are you set on a wood/wood look?

I agree - the sample you are showing is quite yellow. But your ceiling and beams appear much more red toned than yellow.

Engineered hardwood is a fantastic product that you may want to consider. Many species available and finishes such as hand scraped and lots of widths.

I personally love a wide plank - 6" or even wider.

What is the flooring in the rest of the house? Would you need this floor to abut other wood flooring that won't be changed?

Here are some you could consider.

These are all Appalachian brand. There are so many brands to choose from. Go to your local flooring place (not a big box - they tend to carry lower quality) and bring home some samples to see in your space and lighting. Look for the thickness of the wear layer. Thicker is better and it means that you may be able to refinish the hardwood down the road if needed.

This one is red oak. Java colour

This one is white oak - colour is suede.

This is Walnut. Its reading a little orange on my screen but generally walnut would not be orange and I would expect it to look more like the plank on the far right side.

Wow thank tou so much!! Beth, im going to attach some photos of the rest of the main living upstairs… the tile in the entry way is staying but the wood halfway down the hallway will be whatever tone we pick for the kitchen.. i also showed the tile in the master bathroom.. that will stay too… i attached a pic from the island looking out into the small living room as well as looking at the dining table.. i was weary about pendants because i wasnt sure if it would clash with chandelier? do you think the floor where you show your green island would look good? is the goal to be in tune with the wood ceilings?

I agree with a very light option, nice contrast with cabinets and to keep the room bright.

White Oak, White Birch, even Maple (for a nice hard finish)

Erin, what a cool house you have! nice job w/all of it.

I still think a plain engineered (please, no laminate) wood floor would be best.

if you think that french oak I posted is too light,

you could get a slightly darker stain color that matches your staircase wood or mantle

or, you could do an on-site finished oak.

Thank you so much! its a work in progress! i mocked up the french oak… what do we think of these? I definetley want it to feel more modern as there is a lot of wood elements already

Engineered wood is your best bet.

Go with something warm and uniform in color. The ceiling has enough going on, so you don't want a floor with a busy "striped" look.

You have a gorgeous REAL wood ceiling. Installing a poor imitation, very fake wood-look floor, be it LVP or laminate is a terrible idea. The flooring looks jarringly fake.

Consider a quality engineered wood, instead.

I like this one. just enough warmth, but not overpowering, and it works w/the ceiling. get some samples

The 2nd one in your mock ups is too pink

1st one, is ok, but I think this darker one is better

Beth, i think i agree… do you think the dark will still read modern w/ all the wood?

modern? no. and it's not that dark. you want a med, or light to med ASH brown. you don't want a reddish brown, hence the ash reference (ash has a slight greenish undertone w/cancels out the red)

just make sure it's not a stripey/patterned wood. if you stick w/a larger plank, engineered white oak, stained in the med ash brown, you should be fine.

I know engineered french oak wood floors can be pricey. ( I spent over 14K for mine), but you will never have to replace your floors as long as you're in the home.

the wood is timeless. and they can be refinished once, usually down the road, in like 40 years.

Laminate will never last that long. and in a home such as yours with all of the solid wood, laminate would be horrible crime. lol

invest in the real wood floors

What a great house! IMO wood floors are the little black dress of homes: classic and timeless. Like a black dress, the "modern" can come from accessories, the jewelry of the home: lighting, furniture, art, etc.

Beth is providing great advice (along with others) - installing wood floors is the best idea for your home. You have a nice home - I understand that LVP has an improved look/texture now - however, it will never feel/look like real wood.

I have site finished oak floors on my main level + engineered wood flooring on my second level. I would have extended the same site finished oak flooring (it was installed when home was built) - however, due to various health issues, it was much easier to have engineered floors installed.

My engineered wood floors are European Oak + can be refinished 2-3 times. There is less disruption to have engineered wood floors installed vs. site finished = convenient for a renovation vs. a new build.

Also, I think engineered wood is a good choice for you because the final wood color/look is so important due to your wood ceilings. Some people will wind up with slightly different looking site finished wood floors than they expected (unless you pay for the expertise level required in order to avoid all issues). Even though there is a bit of a difference in the color, many times the final color/look of the site finished wood floors still works for the homeowner. Your wood ceilings are such a huge part of your home that the floors need to turn out the way you're expecting.

I highly suggest that you purchase a box of the engineered wood flooring that you select prior to ordering all of the flooring needed for your house. There have been people who have been surprised when their wood floors have more variances in color than the sample they saw (some have been pretty dramatically different vs. the photos + actual sample board). If you order a box first, you will be able to avoid any unwanted "surprises" when the floors are installed.
