Help with colours

We are redoing the windows, shutters and painting the siding. I’ve been looking at Benjamin Moore’s historic collection. I need help with colours. Black windows? Slate windows? Help!

There are a ton of open source visualization tools out there that allow you to plug a picture of your home into the system and then model out different color schemes. I would look at one of those so that you can start playing around with the color palette.

No shutters on at least the right window, get rid of the tudor trim and I think the creamy white siding with bronze windows could work. But then landscaping work please

I don’t mind the tudor trim - I’d just match it to the body color so it’s a bit less pronounced - cute house with tons of potential!

Please no black windows. They are not appropriate for this house.

Your house is adorable! The first thing to consider is your house style---Don't fight the style. The house seems to be a 20s, 30s cottage style. If this is true, off-whites and greys are your best bet. Dark windows seem less inviting, less welcoming.

Siding and window decisions shouldn’t made be in isolation (I’d remove the shutters) and keep in mind the color of the roof and brick.

Choose your siding first and suggest color matching paint (for the remainder of house, with the exception of the entrance). House will feel less busy and the Tudor trim, which doesn’t suit your home’s cottage feel, won’t be as prominent.

Once decided, only then decide on your windows, both design and color wise. When budget permits, landscaping will have huge impact.

House style below is different, but wanted to show its lovely color combination.

I totally love your inspo ai pic. I would make decisions based on that. I LOVE the window box! Have a ball and keep us posted on you updates, I’d love to see them!

With that warm stone and the cottage proportions I'd lean toward slate over black for the windows. Black reads very modern and can fight the charm of a 20s/30s cottage. Slate or dark bronze will still give you contrast without making it feel like a different house.

For siding, the cream direction from that AI render looks right. One thing though - AI renders tend to simplify the texture and light so the actual result can look quite different on a real photo. Full disclosure, I built a free tool called fassia for exactly this - you upload your own photo and try colors on the actual facade. I'm biased but it helped me compare exactly these kinds of warm white variations. Your photo would work well for testing slate vs black side by side.
