It’s a ”coin toss” for me, I like both but guess it depends upon what else is going in the room. Both seem pretty neutral to me, go with your gut instinct, it’s not a forever type of thing.

Agree both are nice but leaning toward the green.

Have you tested the stains to see if they turn out similar to your photos?

If the stains are body/head oils'......... forget the idea of staining the leather.. The spots will end up a darker spot in any color.

BTW I agree staining the leather will make it look worse than it does now since over the yars any cleaning or conditioner you have used will aslo make the stain not work.

Perhaps if you showed the entire room you'd be able to get valuable suggestions. Post more pictures, show all four walls so we can see what else is in the room.

It will look like stained leather despite coating it with a new color that may rub off on your clothes. Add some more batting to the back pillows to fluff them up and leave the leather alone. Think of it as having a patina.

please kindly let me know if seeing the damage changes your mind. I took this seat to a leather tech and they told me that i have aniline leather (unsealed snd porous) so he thought I could due easily. He also thought brown would be easier to achieve than green and he told me let the sofa sit for 2 weeks in 70ish temp room before use. Lastly, he told me to use less color where there are stains.

You could try a commercial leather degreaser to see if that helps. It's different than leather cleaner.

I think you might have better luck achieving the look you want by painting the leather rather than staining it. Or try staining it and if it doesn't turn out well, you can paint over the stain. Since you use a primer on it before paint, it can seal in any oily areas. There are lots of tutorials online and paint made specifically for leather. Apparently, you can also use chalk paint on leather. Link: videos on painting leather furniture

Olive color is more interesting in your space, brown is more common and boring whatever I like natural colors. But more then colour, it will depend on what others say - the real impact of re-building the material.

If you don't like the sofa as-is and think of getting a new one, I say go for the stain and try it.

The sofa looks worn in a way leather does over time. I would probably get a new sofa if I didn’t like it.

Olive green has more personality, and in a smaller room it will feel lighter. It could add some interest without making the space feel too weighed down.

@Mark T @Jana Kadlicová - JK DECO i agree with the olive green. I dont stain the couch, would you like a green accent wall and/or rug in my space? I was going to do a natural jute rug but I also like the idea of bringing the colors of nature inside.

This paint company has info on using their paint on leather.
They also have some new stains you might look at. They are a thicker consistency. Like a thick frosting kind of.
I used the stain on some caning on a chair I bought off FB. They’re almost a perfect match for another chair I have.
Another poster on here has used the paint on her kitchen and bath cabinets and had great results.
I recently used a sample size and painted my kegerator haha

To address the question: both possibilities are possible with different effect. If you preffer color, the extra light olive wall color behind the olive sofa, will bring tone in tone color effect, but to me it could bring a certain "sticky" feel. Better option is the neutral white coffe wall color behind the olive sofa. This gives the sofa a space to shine, it could be in harmony with the rest of your neutral house, and if you wont to bring an extra color, then you can add yet more strong olive pillow or blanket. The neutral yuta rug together with neutral wall will give a harmony rim for the sofa.

Why not just cover the seat cushion with a beautiful twin XL fitted sheet? You could secure it so it doesn't shift with these sheet clips.

@rfharmon I prefer the look of the 2nd one with the white sofa, can be quite interesting if staged properly like shown on your picture.

I would not put shelves over the sofa- stuff could fall on people’s heads. I have to believe this is not the best feng shui. I would not want to be sitting with those on top of me.

If you like the art that you show upthread, by all means use it. Your art does not have to match any sofa. Art is art.

Also, I personally would really not mess around with trying to dye or paint that leather. I would clean it. Or get a slip cover for it. Or get a new sofa.

Thanks @lisedv I returned all of those textured ottomans and will move forward with the shelves (from the white picture) and the green leather sofa — will look for a company to dye it for me. Unless you advise otherwise, please stay tuned. 😇

We had a beautiful navy blue unprotected leather sofa at our lake house. We kept the blinds down when we weren’t there, but the sun coming through a clerestory window perfectly landed on the sofa, fading it terribly over just a couple of years. We hired a company to recolor it, and it looks brand new (and doesn’t fade). It was expensive, but worth it. We didn’t have any stains, however, so make sure you fully question the person doing it that the color will be uniform, and not darker on the stains. Good luck.

@rfharmon If you go ahead with the shelves above the loveseat keep in mind my comment about they will have to be styled properly to look nice not just used as storage which you wanted for behind the door.

The shelves look great! Nice storage but aesthetic as well. If you're trying to hide stains, dyeing it will still show them. I think I'd be more inclined to leave it as is.

I think you might live in an earthquake zone. Am I correct?

In any case, all that stuff over the sofa would not be my choice, as I mentioned up thread. If you are in an earthquake zone, obviously even more of an issue.
