Window treatment

Thoughts on whether or not to add side curtains in my livingroom? I don’t want to block any natural light but thought the softness of some side panels might be nice. Should I add them in or no, and if so how high should the rod go?
Also, considering floating shelves to the right of the fireplace. Yes or no?

Curtains would look nice, adds a lovely texture to your beautiful room.

I love curtain panels and you have enough room on both sides of the windows to add them without blocking the light coming in from the windows. I'd hang them just below the round top window.

Obviously your window is much smaller, but this is the idea. You might also add natural woven shades for some texture.

Your fireplace is very nice, and I don't think shelves are going to add much.

Beautiful room. You did a great job. 2 things I find odd though: what is the purpose of the hanging lamp (it is beautiful) - it's not over the chair? The mirror doesn't reflect anything worth seeing. Also move the lamp shades away from the wall a bit.

Thanks, the lamp is as close to the chair as it can be and I love the mirror. It’s actually my favorite corner lol.

I wouldn't crowd it with adding more, unless you specifically need the functionality. The space is just gorgeous, by the way! Genuinely beautiful.

Your living room is quite pretty, love the colors and textures. I do like the hanging lamp ( and chairs, and fp tile, and much more!).

I also think I would not add shelves and probably not drapes.

The mirror is graceful and lovely but wonder if there’s not a better place for it maybe near the door?

I would select either drapes or shutters, but not both.

No shelves no drapes would be my choice . You have nice space no need for any thing else

No curtains, please, the shutters are plenty. If the urge and twitch? Sleeker lower side tables at couch, and a pair of great lamps.

    Corner........

You love it........feels a bit cluttered to me, it could be the plant which feels heavy. Don't love the hanging pendant but you do, so that's that: ) Really don't love lol.....Sorry. The mirror is a great organic statement, not done any justice in that locale, and reflects........WAH.

You don't need anything in the vase....: )

Woah, sorry my corner offends you Jan Moyer.😂
I really only asked for an opinion on drapes

No need for drapes. The shutters are lovely. Pretty space!

No shelves. Curtains or not up to you, but I wouldn’t. I really like your furniture & love the fireplace!

" Offend"? "Whoa" Wrong word : ) Just opinion in what I see that might be a better look. It' s the internet.

Five people "suggested" replacing mirror with art. I'm saying it needs less around it. Light and tree. It's the internet, opinion and you do you as makes you happy.

I told you, in same way I'd tell a client who was paying for ANY advice on any space. :

No shelves, and no drapes. Love the space.

Possible changes. If you look at the image you posted, the left of the fireplace seems "heavy" (which is why you are probably considering shelving on the right). Instead, try flipping the mantel decor, so that the "heavier" vase and art is on the right side. And, try moving the tall plant to the other corner to balance the heaviness of the mirror.

If you're open to put the mirror somewhere else (as opposed to getting rid of it)

It's a nice artistic statement piece , but clashes with the chairs and other furniture.

If you really want drapes for the softness, add a slim panel on each side but as a decorative piece. Basically curtains that dont open or close. However the shutters are gorgeous on their own. Leave it as is.

The lamps are too thin and throw off the symmetrical/ harmony of the chairs and mantle, but if you want to keep them, I suggest a lighter shade.

And shelves will be overkill here :)

    Beautiful room. Great foundational design.

Thanks for the feedback. Consensus is no curtains. A number of you have issues with the mirror. I get that it’s not something that necessarily “goes” but I enjoy it there. Here’s the rest of the space. I have a large original painting (I also love!) on the same wall in the adjoining room and I wanted something other than a painting to the left of the fireplace. I’m open to suggestions for something cool to replace it but not just remove it. I added two of our own photographs to the right of the fireplace. (I’ve raised them a bit since I took this photo)

Oh, and totally open to coffee table suggestions! Larger leather ottoman? Live edge walnut? Round or rectangle?
