Dining Room decor

last month

I’ve just installed a Plate rack where I’m using heirloom plates but can’t figure out what to put on buffet and table. Not sure about the lamp and greenery. Would appreciate help!!

I think this looks very nice. I particularly like the contrast of the painted buffet with the plate rack and table. If I had one suggestion, it would be Coco Chanel’s advice to remove just one piece: the footed bowl centered on the buffet. Also, can you center the runner and bowl on the table a bit more?

Yes I can center😊😊. My plan is to put moss in the center bowl but may be too high and also candles and greenery in the dough bowl.

I think the plate rack should be installed a bit higher.

Need to center the table on the rug.

I've never understood the lamp on a buffet thing. If you use the buffet as intended at large gatherings it would take up precious inches. Over all I do think it's a beautifully executed as is.

Very pretty heirloom plates. I would replace the lamp with 3-5 slim candlesticks, you can change color with seasons. Remove the center bowl and let the plates have center stage.

I would paint the wall behind the plate rack. A darker color so the plates show up better.

More plates on the plate rack to make it look a bit more informal. The table runner and centerpiece need more color and substance. Lovely room!

Thank you all for your great suggestions!! It’s definitely a work in progress😊

Should I use two slim lamps?

Nothing (or very little) on the buffet. Your plates ARE the decor and the other items are distractions.

So here’s with nothing on buffet. Feels a little empty. I’m planning on candles and greenery for dough bowl. I have two 16x20 botanical pictures for right side of wall.

I like the buffet top with nothing on it. Your room just needs some color and/or dark accents to contrast against the room neutrals (walls, floor, rug, chairs and table).

The art on the window wall looks a bit small and perhaps hung too high. What is the framed size of the botanical prints?

Artwork with color or dark frames plus something darker on the table may help. Perhaps upload a room photo to a paint or lighting website and virtually experiment with a deeper wall color or lighting fixture with more presence.

Maybe add a live tree or plant on a stand.

Your room is 90% of the way there!

I’ve ordered two 16” x 20” botanical pictures on canvas with walnut frames. Wall is 95” so trying to decide if I need three.

Looking into the room, first thing I see is the back of the dining chair, blocking the view of the lovely long top of the table. Spare chair is over at the window. Why not take the two chairs and flank the sideboard.

Go on the hunt for plates that work with the sideboard.

Two, buffet lamps...to go taller and slimmer, for the sideboard.

I do like the lamps and also moving the chairs…thanks!!!

The two botanical prints may be too small for that large wall. Consider a larger grouping that balances and complements the size of the plate rack and table.

I’ve changed the size to 20” x 24” but may still need three

Trying to decide which print works best on right side of wall. I now have botanicals hanging but not loving them. Thanks for your help!!

The botanical prints look too small in size to me. Whatever art you choose, consider going larger. Perhaps tape out varying sizes on the wall to see which size looks best.

Add more platters and plates to the plate rack

Add sconces to either side of the rack.

Place moss ball or osage apples in the wood trough.
