I live in an area with heavy, heavy, heavy snow. This year, my snowplow guy gave me a 7’ pile directly in front of my porch stairs. I also have a front yard that is south facing, so I’d really like to capitalize on that since I have a shady backyard. I love ornamental trees, and want to plant one in my front yard, mainly so I don’t have to look directly into my neighbor’s homes. I’m thinking a crabapple would be the most appropriate. I just can’t decide where it should go.

With the first picture, I’m aware that it is too close for comfort for my vegetable bed (I am planning to get another for the other side), but since I’m in zone 5 I start 80% of my seeds inside anyway, and what I prefer to eat is largely shade tolerant - lettuce, peas, etc). If I go with the second picture, I’m just nervous about snow damage. I know that that area can only have annuals/perennials and a water feature that can be stored in the garage during winter, so that’s not a concern. Just the tree and the vegetable beds. Any suggestions appreciated!
