This is a room in a finished basement about 12x14. There are other spaces in the basement that I am trying to redo, but I already changed a lot in this one. I wanted a bit of a dark, enveloping space. The basement spaces are fairly open to one another. This is next to a dark u-shaped bar. You can see part of it- one thing I was wondering is if I should hang a large roll up blind over the bar counter to allow the room to be more closed and intimate. Also need a coffee table I think. The wall pics are dark and tropical, but they are full of glare so I am looking into fixes for that. Altogether, I like the feel of this room but it doesn’t seem done. I would love to get your impressions and ideas. Some limit to budget for the basement areas, so here sofas stay, paint stays. . Thanks, and I’ll probably be back with more of the basement spaces for help!

If you want the brown leather to look better you need to adjust the green you place next to it. The throw pillow works, the green draperies that lean blue do not work in this space.

Select a new rug to anchor the space and link elements together

Select draperies that work with the area rug. Make sure you get the length correct. Not sure why you think you need draperies along side the TV Consider just painting the wall to match the green draperies instead.

Since your seating reclines, you'll need coffee tables that can be easily moved out of the way. Consider nesting tables that can be moved around.

If you don't want glare on the art select canvases.

Are the ceiling lights and cove lights the same color (kelvin)? One looks whiter and the other yellower.

Consider installing dimmers so you can reduce the brightness/glare.

A ”no” vote for adding a blind to the bar.

You can have prints reframed with low glare glass.

It's a nice room, but pretty dark and monochrome. I think it could benefit from a few touches in wood, pottery, and some kind of greenery (even if it has to be an artificial tree).

I think @BeverlyFLADeziner nailed it. Adding a complementary color - like the green she chose - will give some interest to this monochromatic, dark look.

A definite yes to dimmers on your lighting. In the first photo you posted the lighting seems a bit harsh and glaring.

Don’t suggest a roll up blind, for a lot of reasons. To create a more enveloping effect, you could paint the ceiling, add a warmer/dark rug, earthy pillows and a throw, and last but not least, warm, moody lighting on a dimmer.
