Does this layout work

I'm updating my kitchen and need help from someone who knows more than me (basically everyone).

@millworkman I saw your post on another thread regarding a peninsula. Appreciate any input since your perspective appears to be authoritative. Thank you.

I don't know anymore than you do, but I like to imagine what might be possible (until my builder says "no").

    The stair wall:

That is a lot of sq footage you are giving up for one long counter. What if that became a large pantry? Bring it right out flush to the end of the counter, where the stove is now, but put the fridge there instead. Add doors, if there is room for a swing. Think of all the storage you would have.

If the two cabinets by the back door are gone, then you use that for the walk way into the kitchen...so you would be looking at the pantry. That now gives you that long solid wall to use for sink, dishwasher, etc. Maybe a peninsular would be the answer to giving you a space for stools with backs to the dining table. Stools with no arms would allow you to tuck them under and the peninsular could be come a serving station.

Where does the door on the right lead?

Post the photos here. Nobody is going to click on all of those links.

I don't mind clicking on the links...actually, helpful, and forget all my ideas, except the pantry. Did not realize there were windows on that wall.

What if the island came off the exterior wall, between the two windows? That area behind the stair well, can still give you lots of storage. Maybe the fridge could go in the pantry?

If you follow the ice water stone fire configuration you will find yourself with an efficient working space.
You will enjoy a smooth flow of activities with out having to jump around or backtrack.
Plenty of literature is available on this effective system.
Please at least read through that before finalizing your design.

You will get much better advice if you also post a to scale drawing of the space itself and label all of the doors, windows, sizes, locations, what doors lead to.

    What I don't love:

Too narrow of an aisle between the two counters

Person at the range bumps up against person at the sink

Fridge blocks light from coming in the windows

If you are set on using this T configuration place:

    - Range between the two windows, hood vents directly out the wall.

    - Fridge on the end of the stair run closest placed closest to the dining table. If someone needs to pop in the kitchen area for something from the fridge, they don't have to dodge anyone else who is cooking.

Curious why the T configuration rather than other layouts though.

I like your arrangement, but would change a couple of things. One, I would only have the island be 36” width and give that 6” to the aisle between sink and range. I’d also add a dishwasher next to the sink even if that meant not having the sink and range line up. It’s not like it’s in a straight line of sight. Even though you have those big windows, you might also consider making the back door a glass door to get more light in.

I noticed that you have your back cabinets flush with the wall, but in your photo there is actually a 2-3” jig in the wall so remember to account for that in your cabinetry. Always field measure! You have the door swing in the opposite direction than the photo too, which you might be planning on changing. I actually think I like it how it is now so that when it’s open it doesn’t interfere with the walkway.

@Kendrah I'm open to other configurations. I've also considered an L, but this seems to have better circulation.

The changes look good. I was looking at the master bathroom. Do you have to have a separate tub/ shower or can it be a combo or just a walk in shower? Here’s one layout to consider if can be changed. The shower area could of course also be a tub/ shower combo.

Sorry but no a 3' walkway is not wide enough for actul work in a kitchen. Waht happens when the oven door or DW is open ? Move the row of cabinets toward the stool area and no stools and I never like a sink directly opposite a range either
