If you could hang them from rings with drapery pins, that would lower them enough to just touch the floor.

That being said, curtains should be hung in a way that they look like they could be closed if necessary. Using those small rods defeats that purpose. The curtains also aren't full enough.

My advice would be to replace the rods and curtains. I'd get sheer French pleat curtains and hang them on a black wrought iron rod and rings. Make sure the curtains are wide enough to give a fuller impression. You can get reasonably priced ready-made curtains if you don't want custom.

As Diana Biers says, use curtain rings to hang drapery pins. That will be enough to lower the curtains.

There is no room for standard full curtains to be drawn back completely off the windows. Sometimes the short rod curtain panels are what fits in a situation.

If you want curtains for the space, it will look best if you hang them a few inches below the crown moulding, not where you have them. With a curtain rod that runs the full length and rings. You’ll need extra ride panels given the width of your window.

Yes, to getting a full rod; yes to using hooks that will allow the curtains to skim the floor. I like the color with the chairs, a lot, so my suggestion is to buy two more panels to make them look fuller.

I would change the rug, however. Too small for the table and chairs (rug should be at around 3' big than the table, in order for chairs to be pulled back and stay on the rug).

Try the living room rug under the table...color is better (and it looks like it may be too big for the living room).

No, I wouldn't change them. No one is going to look at the bottoms and if you hang them lower, they are likely to touch the ground and get dirty, so if anyone does look at the bottom of your curtains, they'll see a slightly dingy edge.

I don't object to anything with the drapery panels. However, there are problems with the dining area.

1. I would remove the rug. It makes the space look tight.
2. The buffet and mirror should be centered in the alcove. I'm guessing you have it centered on the table because the table is centered under the light fixture, but the light fixture is NOT centered on the alcove.
3. The light fixture should either be moved or swaged to the correct location.

If you want curtain panels? Those are not the answer. They are more than an inch or so short, it's more like three inches. If you want stationary , decorative panels on a SHALLOW box bay, they mount inside that bay, but they hang on a rod, rings, and full width of bay Going up to crown molding is a NO, they will look like a puppet show is about to happen.

Before any of that? Pick your styles and "flavor" and palette!

The mirror is out of sync with the sconces. A better rug, or NO rug please, and definitely not an oval. Colors? The curtains are reading too warm and yellow for a gray/cool wall /rugs, and the silvery accents. The chair color isn't good with the rug, and the mirror competes with the pattern IN the rug.

A little clutter clearing, the mirror a bit simpler, more unity in style, and IF curtains, white, at least double with panels, and a new rod with rings........: )

I would. They are just too short and I do think people will notice. How are they hung now? If the ring thing works then that is a much more doable option than hemming. I will second Jan on avoiding the puppet show look. A full rod will give the illusion they would close and that is a better look IMHO. I watched the 'how to' article suggested. It's not helpful in your instance. I do have to say the one picture with the too high rod mounted just under the transomed height windows added yet another horizontal line to the wall and not in a good way. There isn't a one size fits all in hanging curtains. Jan insinuates no panels are necessary on your window. I think they add a lot vs just a shade. To each their own.

I didn't "Insinuate" anything. I said if you want a look, GET the look: ) and the way to get it. Bay windows are always a challenge , even when shallow, Remain inside it for window treatments, is the point, and avoid the stage, "show is ready to begin. please take your seats" look. : )

I think you could get away with no draperies. For a dining room, you might like the softer look of Roman shades.

Melissa, it’s a little difficult to tell but is there room to rotate the table, so the head of the table is centered on the window? The light fixture doesn’t appear to be centered over the table and they may fix that, if it’s an option. I know this post is about window treatments, but thought I suggest that table placement too.
