Is photo 1 your actual space and photo 2 an AI rendering?

Photo 2 doesn’t accurately depict the skylight in photo 1. With a large skylight, the tongue & groove area would be small and perhaps look choppy imo.

Assuming the first pic is your room, to add toungue and groove the lower portion would be removed and the vault would stand alone. Adding it as the proposed pic shows is too much. You will have to rethink the rooms wiring.

Why ? DRs used mostly at night so a skylight is useless and honestly what you show with tongue and groove is too much going on on the ceiling. The wiring to get lighting to where it is needed has to also be addressed .

We have a skylight in our dining room with similar angles as yours and I went to look at…can only imagine the T&G creating a very busy effect due to all the angles (+ your beams). Looks like you plan on adding to the ceiling? Really consider the overall effect in the room and does your decor/furniture suit? If you don’t add, just the skylight area will look odd.

If you want an update, consider a new chandelier (lower), small pot lights with dimmers on ceiling and even accessories. If interested in getting suggestions, show a picture of the entire room. Less can be more.

Have you tried your table the other way so it‘s centered under the light, as it‘s throwing the room off.

If you want an update, find an amazing wallpaper for the walls.

The skylight shaft is not an architectural design element and I wouldn't highlight it in any way. It already calls too much attention to itself in a negative way.

The wainscot is pretty but doesn’t flow with the rest of your home.

Consider some simple changes- paint the dining room a color, change the light fixture and replace the word art & mirror with large framed art.

Seems like you have a more contemporary home (different ceiling heights, no trim etc) - as such I would not add the wall treatments. They don’t add anything and may create a disjointed feel
